Clothespin Illustration of Marriage?!

Cheeky Missy

Do you s'pose a wooden clothespin:
Two groov 'ed pieces with a spring....
Could give a little lesson now
On marriage? okay, let us see.....

Consider for a moment now,
What is it when it falls apart?
Why, just two chunks of wood I see,
Not good alone, and mayhap marred.

O there's this side and there's that side....
Which is the better half you think?
Oh that's not difficult, you know,
It is the half that has the spring!

But neither side better or not,
Can ever hang a single thing.
Each by themselves a piece of wood....
Together, a new entity.

As for the spring? it seems quite key...
Uniting it makes the whole pin.
And love the glue of marriage seems
The love which God oft two souls gives.

Thus a simple common clothespin
A lesson thus just might provide
On marriage, lovin' and livin'...
So simple, so key, so divine.

Humorous yet very serious. Been there, done that and I can relate. It spoke to me.

However, to answer your question, the woman is always the better half 😉

Ah, only the guy could say so...and sweetly said. As the girl, yet never having tasted it, I'm inclined to say the opposite...but who knows? I proposed it was the half with the spring.....thereby having the power to make one of the two and make them useful...maybe my argument fell apart? Anyway, thanks very much!

It's intriquing, thought-provoking, loved it. You never mentioned what the spring symbolizes..well, here's an idea. I think it is the bond of love, and through it God, for he is love incarnate.

Oh sweet! Thank you very much! I think I agree with your assessment of the spring...maybe I'll edit it in and then edit the conclusion...I'll consider it anyway. Thanks very much!

Thought provoking poem, with a serious element, leaving you thinking which side is better.

And all from another broken clothespin....interesting how that happens. Thanks for your contemplative response....I appreciated it.

            Nicely put.
Could the one with the spring have more strength in that moment of time. The ability to bring you back to feeling, to love...

Thank you very much for that thought...seems possible....thanks again!
