HURRICANE ALICE - A VILLANELLE

BRIAN & ANGELA

Hurricane Alice has blown away

Leaving destruction in her wake

But it's calm and quiet today !

Roofs blown off and trees asway

Gardens and footpaths all did quake

Hurricane Alice has blown away !

When hurricanes blow there's a price to pay

And such an awful mess they make

BUT - it's calm and quiet today !

No one was killed I'm glad to say

But cars were crushed and trees did break

Hurricane Alice has blown away !

Yesterday - my perfect garden went astray

Chairs and tables and pots did shake

BUT - It's calm and quiet today !

Hurricane Alice - she meant no malice - OK

Just a blowsy girl for Heaven's sake

Hurricane Alice has blown away

BUT - It's calm and quiet today

Thanks for reading - BRIAN

  • Comment from author about the poem: A VILLANELLE is a classical poetic form. 19 lines with a rhyme pattern A1bA2 abA1 abA2 abA1 abA2 abA1A2. Uppercase letter and number indicates the line is repeated - Lines A1 and A2 must also rhyme. Lower case indicates the line rhymes - OK. Check this pattern with my poem. A classical example is Dylan Thomas' DO NOT GO GENTLE INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT. It is a reflection on his Father. Try one for yourself ! BRIAN
