You see them in the morning,
You see them dusk to dawn.
Dedicated dog walkers,
Their Pal pulls their arm.
If you have no place,
Like a fenced-in yard.
To handle dog’s business,
Life with them can be hard.
So, the walker’s at the ready,
Before they leave home,
Take their daily route,
Get the dog’s business done.
When family first got Rover,
Kids were so happy.
But, as time went on,
Their help walking was lacking.
In a house full of kids,
Usually Mom at the tether.
No matter how she feels,
No matter what the weather.
What the kids take for granted,
What they never assume,
They would ever have to wait,
To be taken to the bathroom.
Poor dog has to be patient,
For the walker, they beg,
In the meantime, no accidents,
They have to cross their legs.
Maybe teach the kids a lesson,
They might learn, no less.
Dog has an accident on the rug,
They will have to clean the mess.
You know the dog is sad,
If they made a mistake.
They want to make you happy,
There, all over their sweet face.
So, to all you walkers,
To you I salute.
I sympathize with you,
I was in your shoes.
My Greyhound had to walk,
Four times, no matter what.
Two times in the daytime,
Two times after that.
It was a labor of love,
I know she was grateful.
Two pals were we,
My dear companion, so faithful.

Brilliant WBL.
I love this...
And the name
5 miles is inspired !!
Thanks! I am glad you liked it. I feel especially bad for the walkers this time of year in the Northeast USA. I have slipped on the ice and banged my head, or fell on my rear. It is no fun. Got some of those things you slip on your shoes and they helped. Just felt bad for the dog's feet on the cold street. Thanks for the comment!
Loved your use of words . Dogs are a labour of love you are right but worth the hassle☺
Thanks so much. It can be such a lot of work. But, they are so grateful to be outside walking with their best buddy. Thanks for your comment 🙂
Wonderfully written and expressed Great write
Thanks Tony. I appreciate it!
Welcome
Don't have a dog - I do love them, but they are such a bind especially as we travel a lot overseas but I can appreciate this poem nevertheless. And it sure is a good one
Wow. Thanks Michael. They are such great companions. But you are so correct. The demands of life can be tough to juggle when you have a dog or other pets requiring your daily attention.
You handle so delicately a task many of us are grossed out at, and make it fun and a normal part of life which it is. I have 2 outside dogs and live in the country with the nearest neighbor a half mile away. They take care of themselves except when we let them in on cold nights.
Wow! They must just love that! It reminds me of the show Magnum PI when Higgins told the "Lads" to "patrol." I was able to let my Grey run free out back of my home in some open space. She enjoyed that time together. Thanks for the comment!
Wonderful poem! But I have never had a dog--still can appreciate the labor of love in dogwalking. Such a cute name "5 miles"!!
Thanks Christina! It was fun for me a majority of the time, and got to meet fellow dog owners every day!
lol,i can`t imagine,,love the name
Yes. No matter the weather or how you are feeling, Dog Needs A Walk. 🙂
brilliant poem! heretofore we lived on a farm in vermont and our dog had the run of the land. now we are in a small condo in a ski resort and we have to do the dreaded walks in freezing cold snow and wind :0( so this poetry really hit home for me. thanks for brightening my day, and alas, my next walk!
I am sure you are very much appreciated! I remember the winters here in the Northeast when I had my Grey. I put a coat on her all the time as she was so thin-skinned. Thanks for letting me know that about your dog in Vermont! Stay warm!
