Heart of Gold

Christina8

Not too many grandmas are

over a hundred years old.

Mine is. She was my mom's

mom and has a heart of gold.

She grew up without electricity

Telling stories about the "olden days"

When her grandpa was in the civil war

and how to make certain things her way

As I always have, I like to sit

and listen to her stories told

Of days gone by, of my family tree

of hardships and times she had to be bold

Life before my grandpa was rough

They enjoyed life on their farm

Six children to keep her busy

She'd make dinner and the family would swarm

A devout religious woman to this day

God's taken three of her children away

But I look to the heavens and I pray

Thank you Lord, please give us another day

She's lived a fulfilling life, so

with countless grand and great grandchildren

She is loved more than anyone knows!

  • Comment from author about the poem: Sweetest woman I\\\'ve ever met, she still remembers and loves us. If I had to really sit down and write a poem about her life it would be a book, seriously.

a beautiful tribute to someone that no one can replace - beloved grandmothers! i agree with robert, "any work that congers feelings in another person, at least in my opinion, is indeed a work of art" and this poetry stirred many ancient memories for me. i wrote a song about our youth when we visited my grandma's house. nothing can replace those enchanting times. thank you for a beautiful ode to your grandmother.
