So you work all these years,
You are a very loyal pair.
Get up, go to work,
Come home, discuss your day.
Talk about the future,
About the time you’ll retire.
All the things to do together.
A happy couple, side by side.
So, one day a bad storm,
Stuck inside, can’t leave.
Together 24/7,
Here comes cabin fever.
You decide to make a list,
Stuff you two will complete.
Each other with their tasks,
Say, fix the toilet seat.
Then start to pass judgement,
Criticize with those words.
Slowly but surely,
Get on each other’s nerves.
Then, it suddenly hits you,
Is this to be retirement?
Not so bad being apart,
Not stuck in confinement.
So, you look at each other,
A big hug and a smile.
Grab a cup of coffee,
Discuss this for a while.
Then the forecast’s in your favor,
Stuck inside no longer,
Back to work tomorrow knowing,
With absence, your hearts grow fonder.

Spot on and the advice to each have your interests is so important. Having said that I know one couple who are both photographers specialising in camera-less photography who work together in everything they do - they even give joint lectures, joint exhibitions etc - and they are as happy as Larry.
That is wonderful news and thanks for the comment. Some people are like two peas in a pod or like peas and carrots, as Forest Gump said. I have be honest and say that I really enjoy my time to myself, so I would have to work on that. Thanks again Michael!
Wonderfully written and expressed Great write
Thanks Tony!
Welcome
a very thought provoking write. my husband works from home and we are together almost 24/7. i love that you give us insight into the dynamics of daily life and the challenges that arise, while simultaneously giving us a kick of humor (the photo also made me smile.) nicely done! :0)
Thanks Jane! It is tough on a relationship when there is not much time for each to breath. I think it has something to do with opposites attracting and then driving each other crazy when stuck in the house due to bad weather. π I really appreciate your comment!

Another great poem! It is so true that you have to have your own hobbies! Very well written!
Thanks Christina! Variety keeps the spice in life, in particular, when it comes to relationships. π
GREAT POEM HONEY ~ And a great truism ~ you can have too much of a good thing ! I worked with a LADY in a College in the UK and her HUSBAND worked in New York USA ! They only saw each other once a Month but they had one of the most loving and secure marriages I have ever known. I know she never cheated on Him ! I am sure he didn't cheat either ! Thanks for sharing ~ BRIAN
Sounds wonderful and exciting for them. Great story Dear Brian! Today, people do have Skype to stay in touch and Face Time. Thanks for the great comment!
Ouch! Careful what you wish for. We are retired and spend most of the day going about our own activities, always having dinner together and touching base from time to time. We cherish trips for we are together the whole time exploring and doing fun things. So many can relate to this poem.
Thanks for that Augustus. My husband and I would probably do what you and your lovely wife are doing, as we are both someone alike, but also opposite. I ponder about what life would be like if I won Powerball. It think I would not change my habits. But, the trips would be so exciting, for sure. π
