TIME TO GO

Michael Edwards

TIME TO GO

It’s time to be going

so we move to the hall

and I put on my coat and my gloves.

Goodbyes are said

as the door’s opened wide

and we stand in the cold and the snow.

Yet still they talk on

and the biting winds blow

and I’ve heard all this gossip before.

‘What about Alf

and poor Elsie’s not well

and dear Ben’s got a bladder infection’.

As boredom sets in

I remove my thick coat

and creep back to the cosy warm lounge.

I’m nearly asleep

as she looks round the door

and she glares at me there in the chair:

‘It’s all right for you

It’s late don’t you know

and how come you’re not ready to go?’

So very true, it i amazing what my wife can talk about and how many people she can talk to as we are leaving places.

  • Goldfinch60

    • Michael Edwards

Thanks Goldfinch - great to know I'm not alone in this

Thanks MICHAEL ~ You are a Blessing ~ An abstract to intrigue us and a poem to please us. An excellent daily waker~upper ! Avoid the Ladies from New York all they do is talk ~ talk ~ talk. Paradoxically New York Girls spend millions of dollars each year on LIPSTICK just to make sure their lips DON'T STICK ! C'est la Vie ~ BRIAN

      • Michael Edwards

Thanks Brian. Bright red lipstick to help the words find their way out even quicker !! Now there's a great idea for another bit of whimsy.

        She speaks quite quickly
she paints her lips a bright red
        to help the words out.

        • BRIAN & ANGELA

Thanks MICHAEL ~ a nice idea and a balanced 5~7~5 Senryu as a bonus ~ BRIAN

Ha - - a familiar scene in many a household - you verse the tension so well here Michael - love the art work too.

          • Michael Edwards

Thanks Fay - it happens regularly in our family.

Yes. That can happen. Great work on the painting.

Lovely poem Thanks for the painting Michael its grand you think you could do one with my hair as the brush its long and curly and a bit like wire wool? just don't dip my face in the paint! thank you Mighty Mike. WW

            • Michael Edwards

Now that aint such a daft idea - there is currently a painting competition on prime time TV here in the UK where one of the contestants uses hair extensions to paint with - Don't know if you've got a beard Willy but if not grow some stubble and we could try out chin painting ! Even dafter there is an artist called Pricasso who paints with his penis - try googling it sometime - now there is a limit.

              • willyweed

yeah I was just kidding but there is no speed limit on weird! I can grow what ever you need and I'm game so its all up to you! ww

I usually tell her I left and came back. And she say's "You didn't?" I love your paintings and your sense of humor. This poem reads like pure truth. It depicts the scene and the people as clearly as your paintings depict scenes. This abstract is beautiful and gives me a sense of the snow and the cold. LOved your poem. - Phil A.

                    • Michael Edwards

Thanks Phil - really appreciate your encouragement - yes: a tad close to the truth this one.
