Watson and Holmes went camping,
One fine, clear summer’s day,
They pitched their tent in a large, green field,
Surrounded by high, bright, hay.
They sat round the campfire.
Holmes smoking on his pipe,
And Watson writing in his diary,
Which later he would type.
When at last they went in the tent,
As tiredness upon them crept,
They slid upon their camp beds,
And on them they just slept.
At three o’clock that morning,
Or maybe there about,
Holmes awoke with quite a start,
And to Watson gave a shout.
“Watson, wake and look, what do you see?”
“I see a clear sky full of stars,
With the bright moon shining over us,
And above me there is Mars”
“Your vision of the stars above
Dear Watson is not tricked
But all that I can now deduce
Is that our tent has just been nicked”

"Nicked" means stolen for those who do not understand English slang.
Oh lol, good write!
Nice one Goldfinch - great sense of humour - gave me quite a smile on a wet miserable morning - I keep thinking about writing a rhyme based on cockney rhyming slang (I am from London but not within Bow Bells) - now that will require quite a bit of translation for those not in the know!!!
Although I live in the midlands I come from the Medway Towns in Kent and one area of Chatham called Luton has a cockney accent. This is because during the hop picking season the Eastenders came down and stayed in Luton and many ended up living there hence the cockney accent. I sometimes get called a cockney!
I also moved to the Midlands (now near Market Harborough) but only an hour on the train to central London - I do miss it but would hate to live there again after getting used to open countryside and friendly village life.
Thanks GF ~ nice one ! I am a "Holmes aficionado" so anything about the Daring Duo give me pleasure. I didn't know they were camp ! Great poem and an even greater deduction ~ Yours BRIAN
Thanks Brian, I have read all the Holmes stories and I always enjoy them
this was funny when I only thought I knew what nicked meant then you confirmed and the laff riot began too freakin' sweet Bravo! just Golden! ww
Thanks WW, we must have humour in our lives.
oh with you old bloke we do...we do Thank you
Ha ha brilliant !!!
Thank you, much appreciated.
From Louisiana, USA I interpreted "nicked" as a hole and it still made sense, but I love the true English slang bit. Enjoyable.
Thank you Augustus, much appreciated.
That is a wonderful story Goldfinch! Great!
Two of my favorite characters. Read all, watched all, of the books and movies. Couldn't pass this one up. I guess it's always best to have a tent with a floor in it. I still didn't see it coming. Holmes is such a genius. Well, thoroughly enjoyed your poem. - Phil A.
Thank you Phil, I too have read all the books.
