BRITISH APPLE PIE ~ WITH CREAM ~ YUMMY !
When you go to a Friend's Dinner Party
Or dine out at a Restaurant ~ posh
There are things you expect ~ when the menu inspect
As you contemplate choosing your NOSH !
In the UK we expect ~ four distinct courses
A starter ~ a main ~ and a sweet
And then of course ~ cheese board ~ tour de force
Making our Posh Nosh complete !
I've not mentined the wine ~ an interest of mine
Or Sherry ~ or Brandy ~ or Port
In this poem excerpt ~ the subject of Dessert
Is indeed my uppermost thought !
A nice "fresh fruit salad" I include in this ballad
Jam roly poly and tirimasu
Pancakes (with lemon) or ginger with melon
And strawberries and cream to name but a few !
A Starter for me ~ an "amuse bouche" I see
To get my digestive juice flowing
The Main (not too big) ~ half a lamb ~ half a pig
Would leave me too full-up and glowing !
Desserts are so good ~ special old fashioned pud
Spotted Dick ~ Peach Melba ~ hot spiced Apple Pie
Smothered in custard (as essential as mustard !)
To please both the palate and eye !
I'm a MAN ~ so I can eat 'til my shirt buttons burst
Balanced Meal ? I just feel we should always leave room for DESSERT !

My favourite is apple pudding, the pudding of course made with suet pastry and then steamed for hours. My brother would kill for profiteroles!
Yes indeed GF ~ Suet pudding filled with apples ~ like a hand in a glove ~ YUMMY ! That has to be served with custard ! When we leave the EU ~ no more profiteroles ~ suet puds and pies only and bread pudding ! Yours BRIAN
wonderful poem well written as always! I don't know what spotted dick is but I do love a warm apple pie with cream (would like to try it your way--with custard!) I have so many fav desserts many of them chocolate! Hugs--Christina
Thanks CHRIS ~ We live and learn ! Spotted Dick is spnge pudding with currents (spots) in it. The BRITS are very custard orientated ~ OK as long as its not lumpy ~ I love all CHOCKY puds ~ bring them on ! Thanks for your comments ~ Sweet Hugs ~ BRIAN
Steamed apple pud is top of the list for me too - but do enjoy my food. The trouble is my wife is such a great cook I can't get anything in a restaurant that comes anywhere near - as a result I'm always disappointed when we eat out. Anyway most restaurants these days are more concerned with fast food muck - so hard (and expensive) to get a real meal.
As for etiquette now that's another matter and I could go on for hours about that.
