Moved Out

WriteBeLight

Your boxes of things,

At every turn.

The books and toys,

That helped you learn.

You’re heading off,

To the setting sun.

Making your way,

Love, life and fun.

The years behind,

Now a distant past.

As they saying goes,

They flew by fast.

From when together,

As you developed inside,

To who you are now,

Leaving our sides.

My wish is that,

You never again,

Have to return,

To this nest.

But, to build your own,

Home and family.

To know success,

Being financially free.

We supported you,

The best we could.

Now we send you off,

As all parents should.

Very true but every child should now that if their new life has troubles their original nest will still be there to comfort them. All we can do for our children is our best and hope that their new lives are theirs to make their own but still always be there for them, and in my case be there for Grandchildren as well.

Thanks Goldfinch. I really am proud of my children, but realize that it is much better for our relationships that they learn from struggling to keep themselves self-sufficient. Believe me, I have always and will always be there when they fall. And, they certainly are able to be on their own, now. I am fortunate for that. 🙂

Yes they must learn for themselves, this learning becomes their experience and experience just cannot be taught I wish them well in their life's journey.

Thanks. They will be just fine. I have done so much. It is time, believe me.

I think we are of like mind - my children and grandchildren are the greatest gifts I possess and will always be there for them BUT they must make their own way - I (that is we - my wife and I) wont always be here as a back stop should things go wrong.

          • WriteBeLight

I agree Michael. There are a lot of "children" I know who still depend on their parents to do for them, when the opposite should be the case. It is gross to me that they still suck off of their parents, and the parents allow this. In particular, it is the mothers who are the ones who just cannot let go. I just shake my head. Lazy lumps.

Our son is studying history and Chinese and is fascinated by the far East. He in his second year of study in China at the moment. Your poem sums up the emotions around this. In your usual elegant style. Well done

            • WriteBeLight

It is emotional, and reminds me of when they were young. When they are actually on their own, it can be bittersweet. Thanks so very much Garry! You must be very proud.

Thanks for sharing HONEY ~ to be responsible ~ all fledglings MUST flee the nest ~ painful but true. I have flown but close enough to visit ! Thanks a lovely poem ~ Hugs BRIAN

              • WriteBeLight

Being close enough to visit is wonderful. But, older children moving back in can be stressful. Thanks Dear Brian.

An interesting time in the life of an offspring is when they start to make their own way and need parental blessing to take that journey.

                • WriteBeLight

I am reminded of the saying that I am a parent who longer is involved in their parenting. They do change through the years. My hope is they will appreciate hard work and the rewards that come with this. Thanks Fay.

We have learned many things from books and toys ever. Years pass through and time comes ahead. Returning to nest every feels good. Memorable poem is shared.
