We met in supermarket,
Joe and I,
We meet every Saturday morning
And chat.
It started long ago
With just a nod of recognition
As we shopped early
On a Saturday morning.
It changed to a “Morning”
And then the odd word,
We found that we both loved rugby
And so our meetings became longer
Until at last we spent several minutes
Just chatting, always starting with rugby
But now we talk of many things.
This morning was different,
Joe said that he had gone to a local arboretum
And this saddened him.
He saw couples walking round
Holding hands or with linked arms.
He missed his wife,
Only gone a year ago,
He felt so alone,
In a place where couples roamed.

- Comment from author about the poem: This is true, I meet a man in the supermarket on Saturday mornings and have done for years. We just chat about all things but one day he said this to me, so sad.

So sorry for him, and others whom have lost loved ones. It is nice he has you to talk to. Thanks for sharing your story Goldfinch. I hope he can feel better and know there are more chapters in his life to live and write.
Thank you WBL, we have some quite long and deep talks in the supermarket some days.
Such a sad poem but also quite warming - love the way this has been put together - great read.
Thank you Michael, much appreciated.
Sensitive story. I saw a programme - someone faked an illness supposedly, to avoid paying a debt. yet when debt collectors called he became unwell in reality. unless he was faking that too, but he became unconscious. We don't know some people's situations. It only makes us more angry towards fraudsters.
As usual a thoughtful offering, beautifully written. Enjoed as always.
Thank you Garry, most kind.
Thanks GF for a lovely sentimental poem for a Monday Morning. Loss of one's Partner must be the worst experience ! I have male friends who have suffered bereavement and it helps ~ but the loss remains 24/7 ~ Yours BRIAN.
Thank you for your comment Brian, he and I have got to know each other quite welll.
Yes that friendly word can lead to all sorts of sharing as people in that situation can be very lonely - - well done for giving time for a chat and for caring. A fine read.
Thank you Fay for your kind comments, he and I get on very well.
Sad to hear that
Thank you for your comment.
we become lost souls, after years of togetherness
So very true. Thank you WM.
