GYMKHANAS ~ A Blank Verse Acrostic

BRIAN & ANGELA

OVER THE JUMPS ~ PERFECT COORDINATION OF A LADY & HER HORSE !

GIRLS & HORSES ~ perfect symbiosis

YOUNG GIRLS ~ and just a few Boys ~ English names

CHARLOTTE ~ Mary ~ Elizabeth ~ George ~ Our

KINGS & QUEENS love Horses ~ and so do we !

HORSES (unlike Men) can be trained ~ so they

ALLOW the GIRLS to scrub ~ pamper ~ groom ~ and

NUZZLE  them ~ ask no favours in return

AND when requested Trot ~ Walk ~ Jump ~ THEY DO

So very BRITISH ~ I love GYMKHANAS !

Thanks for visiting ~ comments welcome ~ LOVE BRIAN

Visiting a GYMKHANA ~ especially if you know a Competitor

is a great day out in the British Countryside.  You get a

chance to meet some Lovely Fillies ~ Human and Equine !

This poem is presented as a blank verse ACROSTIC. No rhyme

but meter ~ iambic pentameter ~ 10 syllables per line ~ OK !

  • Comment from author about the poem: In the UK owning a HORSE is more expensive than raising a CHILD ! Consequently the participants in GYMKHANAS tend to be the Middle Class or Farmers (who are Middle Class) or Working Class Families who love their Daughters and encourage them to work in Livery Stable so thy can borrow a Horse for a day. Most of my extended Family are in the latter category but some have owned Horses. If you are in the UK on holiday (there are very few terrorists !) do try and visit a Country Fair ~ It's not the Kentucky Derby but there are always some Horses and their very elegant Ladies. Have you ever visited or participated in a GYMKHANA ? Comments welcome ~ Equine Love ~ BRIAN XOX

  • Fay Slimm.

An engaging acrostic and I truly agree that with a day at Gymkhana you can meet those who have a real coordination with the horse. - - - a good read Brian.

Thanks FAY I wrote a "serious" poem because in my experience it is a very serious and rewarding pastime. The BRITS are all outstanding AMATEURS at everything ! Yours B

Good fun write, one of our friends used to go eventing and one time we went to watch her she was berated about using bad language to help her horse over a particularly hard obstacle!

Thanks for a droll comment GF ~ there are always a lot of expletives in Showjumping ~ normally between he Rider and the Horse not the Riders ! Yours BRIAN

This is something I've never got into but I do live in the middle of hunt country. Always makes me smile when I see a fox walking down the middle of the street and hear the dogs barking in the kennels - a case of snubbing their nose. Another good acrostic

Thanks MICHAEL ~ pleased you enjoyed it. There is a lot of controversy about Fox Hunting ~ professional Horse Racing and Circus Horses etc. Personally I feel it is up to the individual lik Bullfighting etc. Thanks BRIAN

A great acrostic! I had never heard of a Gymkhana before. You continually raise my IQ! 🙂 Someone I know owns horses. They are beautiful creatures! It's a great day to go to the countryside and go for a ride on a beautiful day! Awesome write! Hugs--Christina

Thanks CHRIS ~ They are very Amateur affairs not like professional Horse Racing at AINTREE (Liverpool) or the KENTUCKY DERBY. Horses are very important in America ! GYMKHANAS se rather like Country Fairs with dog shows etc but they are good fun and quite a challenge for Girls as Young as 5 ! All Girls love HORSES ! Pleased you have a chance to ride. Owning a Horse is very expensive in he UK ! Keeping a HORSE in a FIELD is about £2000 per year ($2600) and in a STABLE about £4000 per year ($5200) a Show Horse costa at least £1000 ($.1300). Thanks for your comment ~ HUGS ~ BRIAN
