Work day was tuff,
Had to work late.
Just wasn’t enough,
The lunch I ate.
But, it’s not just food,
I need to be fed.
But, time to myself,
Be with just me, instead.
It’s not that I’m sad,
Or, even depressed.
I just need to sit,
And, decompress.
I’ll get off my chair,
Put on my coat.
Take my coffee cup,
And, my lunch tote.
Turn off the light,
Head to the hall.
Don’t come back,
Until tomorrow.
In my car,
Turn the key.
Go to a bar,
Very near me.
Turn the wheel,
Towards the lot.
Found a close,
Parking spot.
Out the door,
To the walk.
Hope no one,
Wants to talk.
Just want to escape,
Again to feel human.
All by myself,
Me, once again.
Grab a seat,
At the bar.
Order a drink,
Home’s not very far.
Nibble on popcorn,
Watch the T.V.
Not really looking,
At what’s on the screen.
Sit and dwell,
How the day went down.
It’s a noisy bar,
But, I hear no sounds.
Ice has melted,
Into the booze.
I’m so relaxed,
But, not enough to snooze.
Get my tab,
Pay the bill.
Just one drink.
Please, no refill.
Leave the joint,
Get back to my wheels.
Begin to head home,
I like how I feel.
Back to the house,
Park in the garage,
It’s still twilight,
And, not too dark.
So, the last few minutes,
For my “Me” time has passed.
Still, happy to be home,
After this day, at last.

Oh if only I could watch TV or go to a film without getting bored and wandering off or falling asleep - me time is on my own with a sheet of paper to write, draw or paint.
I get very little "Me" time, but when I do, I make the most of it. I do take time on a Saturday morning to sit and write. But, most of the time the TV is blaring or I am being asked to do something. So, I am grateful for any time I can give to myself. Thanks for the comment Michael. You certainly use your "Me" time well 🙂
ah to unwind after the grind. nice one WBL
Thanks WW!
Thanks HONEY ~ Very apt and it complements the frenzy of the "Daily Grind" featured in my ODE today. The Good Book advises us to meditate ! Any time ~ anywhere ~ any how ~ just do it ! However your poem hilites the importance of being alone ~ AMEN. Thanks for being you ~ love the picture ~ Hugs ~ BRIAN
Thanks Dear Brian. We should take time to meditate. It is good for the sole. 🙂
Love this WBL.
Great poem,
On my own riding
The bus or sat in
A pub(bar) people
watching is the
Best time for me
To get inspiration
For my poems,
Also sat in bed
When my love is
Fast asleep is
Another good
Time. It's like
Being alone
Except when
She snores
Which believe
Me is a sound
I still don't believe
Comes out of that
Beautiful being..
Glad I found time
To read this...
Enjoyed it very much..
Norm.
Thanks! I have to say being alone to think is so valuable to me. I am happy that you relate to this. And, you are so funny about your love and her snoring. HA HA. Thanks again for taking some of your so valuable time to read my poetry. 🙂
Well, sounds like fun, in a "Me" kind of way, but we all need those moments from time to time. A long day at work always seems to make the drinks taste better. This poem ran smooth and conveyed the images and the action to a "T." The theme of needing some "Me" time is unique, at least I've not read much on it, lately. Well done. - Phil A.
Thank you so much Phil. You are right about how the drinks taste better! I always enjoy the popcorn too!
sounds like a great day to me,and i wonder who that good looking lady is sitting at the table
That is Ms. Clipart. She is the perfect fit for how I feel when sitting and relaxing though. Except, I only drink white wine 🙂 Thanks Wordman!
