Eat Crow And Apologize

WriteBeLight

That great feeling you get,

From helping out.

Someone with less,

Down and out.

And, when you do it,

Be ever so quiet.

Not boastful and loud,

Inciting a riot.

Badgering others,

Who do not follow.

The choice is their’s,

They’re hearts aren’t hollow.

Don’t question, then,

The lives they live.

Just because your cause,

They couldn’t give.

When you talk the talk,

Create an impression,

Be honest with yourself,

Do not others, pressure.

Because they don’t take,

Instructions from you,

They have their own lives,

To themselves are true.

If you want to shout,

Someone’s bad news,

Ask people to chip in,

Those with less than you.

Do so in a polite,

And, courteous way.

If others can’t help,

Tip your hat, on your way.

And, when at home,

On your bed you rest,

Accept the outcome,

Do not obsess.

We all need to,

Sleep at night.

Not face each day,

Looking for a fight.

It is only you,

That you embarrass,

When you beat a dead horse,

Bully and harass.

In the end, I know,

That’s not God’s way,

He loves us all,

Not up to you to say.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Someone owes poets here a big apology. Of course, though, expect many long threads of self-substantiated explanation. Hopefully, the next meal for this person will be crow.

Good write and the last verse is so true.

      Thank you Goldfinch! I agree.

Well said - has a real stinging quality to it and great wisdom. Not sure about eating crow - often had pigeon but crow? Isn't a gathering of crows called a murder of crows - mmmh

      • WriteBeLight

Crow is best eaten when warm is a saying I heard years ago. Basically, the sooner one apologizes the better. Never heard about the murder of crows. I will look that up. Thanks Michael.

I wish I had never commented on a certain poem now. We can chuck Bible verses at each other ad nauseum and not get anywhere. But isn't there something about having our reward already, if we boast about our good deeds now?

        • WriteBeLight

I thank you for your comment. I agree that we should be proud of our good deeds. At the same time, we have to have respect for each other. And, it is all about why we do good deeds. They are supposed to be for the person we want to help, not for our own egos. Thanks orchidee!

I believe it is a gaggle of crows but I have heard murder as well. but what do I know I'm just a willy weed?

          • WriteBeLight

Hi WW. I have not had a chance to look that murder thing up, yet. But I plan to. I do like the "Crow" saying that I think applies well when one should appologize as quickly as possible. Nonetheless, I like the crow picture I found here. I cannot stand them when they mess up my bird feeder though! 🙂

I think I know what this is about. He mentioned this to me, now that I've read your poem.

You made a great point in your Foolish Heart piece. He was always turning around everything so the focus would remain on him. Very self-serving. What you did was so wonderful and strong. Again, your courage and grace shines! Thanks to you and for checking out my poem. 🙂
