IS TODAY TODAY ?

Michael Edwards

IS TODAY TODAY?

If today was tomorrow yesterday,

and if today is yesterday tomorrow,

and if yesterday was tomorrow two days before today

and if tomorrow will be yesterday two days after today

Is today still today today?

  • Comment from author about the poem: A bit of silly for today. Plus a pen drawing to which I added a watercolour wash which I'll post another day after today which might be tomorrow or it could be yesterday in two days time. .

Really like this idea 🙂 I think you could write more on the same subject and really ponder the question you pose

    • Michael Edwards

At the moment I am still a bit confused - not sure if its not tomorrow when today is actually yesterday - am I getting a little ahead of myself?

      • LukeMorrison

Possibly, but its interesting how tense seems definitive and yet when thinking about what today, yesterday and tomorrow represent they are sort of subjective concepts. Also, who are you today to you yesterday and who were you today to you tomorrow? And so on.

      • Goldfinch60

As I often say today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday. Good write.

Good write. Also - does tomorrow never come? Because when it gets here, it's today!

        • Michael Edwards

Thanks Orchidee - as the Queen said to Alice in Through The Looking Glass: 'Jam yesterday, jam tomorrow but never jam today'

        • Garry

Brilliant poem. A light hearted view on issues around who and when we are.
I was thinking about this yesterday and will re-read your poem again tomorrow. 🤔

          • Michael Edwards

You could read it yesterday in two days time

            • Garry

I did. It will be fun

              • Michael Edwards

Aw thanks Garry my last laugh before retiring to bed tonight - or was it yesterday?

                • Garry

Tell me about it Last week.

Thanks - not sure if I'm nobler in the mind to answer the question.

Drink it quickly - it'll be cold if today is yesterday.

                      • Michael Edwards

Is next week the week after this week or the week before the week in two weeks time?

                      • Tony36

                        LOL! Great write

                      • rrodriguez

I'm think about today what I thought yesterday, but tomorrow is still ahead of me, so let me worry about today rather than tomorrow. Interesting writing that keeps of thinking about today, yesterday, and tomorrow.

                        • Michael Edwards

But if what you're thinking about is yesterday save it up and wait for tomorrow when its today.

Is that a drawing of your home? You wish. Whatever today is, tomorrow will be better and yesterday was worse. Very cleverly put. - Phil A.

                          • Michael Edwards

I wish too - but think of the maintenance. Thanks Phil
