Lost To Reality.

Goldfinch60

I sit here in my world,

My world of words,

My world of music,

Lost to reality,

Lost for so short a time.

Reality will soon come upon me

As I need to be there once more,

Be there for my wife

As she falls further into her own world,

Her world of forgetfulness,

Forgetfulness and repetition.

It is so very hard for me,

For me to see her fall.

This lady, my love, my soulmate,

This lady who brought love and joy,

Brought love and joy to all,

To all who knew her,

Now becoming surrounded,

Surrounded by a bubble,

A bubble of dementia,

A bubble that gets stronger,

Stronger and harder,

Harder for me to penetrate,

But I am here for her,

And will always be so.

My love for her always there,

A love that has never dimmed,

A love that is so strong,

And has strengthened,

Strengthened each moment,

Each moment of our lives,

Our long lives together.

So I value so much

My world of words,

My world of music,

Lost to reality.

These are my lifeline,

In my world of reality.

This such a wrenching read - I have known dementia in my direct family so I can understand a little of what you are going through and my heart goes out to you and your wife.

    • Goldfinch60

Thank you Michael, it can be hard at times but we WILL keep going. Words and music (and many on this site) help me to get through the hard times.

What a soulful poem about a situation that must be difficult. To manage and to write about.

      • Goldfinch60

Thank you for your kind thoughts Garry.

Remember, though, you are not "lost to reality" in your worlds of words and
music they are as much a part of your real life as everything else is.

        • Goldfinch60

Thank you Garry, music and words are such an important part of my life, as you say my real life, but I use them as an escape to other parts of my life.

Awww you know I love your work anyway but my goodness how the need for your first couple of hours for your own sanity comes through then the rest is dedicated with love to your wife 😣

          • Goldfinch60

Thanks Jooles, thank you so much.

I wish I had the power and words to make everything back like it was for you Goldfinch, to the happier times you mention here. Such a poignant and dear write.

It takes a brave heart to deal with what you have to, and only a love eternal to inspire you through. Your poem reveasl what all who deal with this same condition go through on a daily basis. It is touching and disheartening. We all fear the same fate. God Bless you and your wife. - Phil A.

            • Goldfinch60

Thank you so much for your kind words Phil, we WILL get through it.

Thanks BROTHER ~ for caring and sharing. Please value your space you really need it ! It is bad enough when one's G-Parents and other elderly relatives and friends disappear into their own inner world ~ but to ~ lose ones partner (of many years) in that way ~ must be a 24/7 burden ! Thinking of you both and praying for you ~ AMEN BRIAN

              • Goldfinch60

Thank you for your kind words and your prayers Brian, much appreciated.
