Fits tune: Richmond
('City of God, how broad and far')
Based on Hebrews 7 v.23 - 28
**********
See, priests of the Old Covenant
About duties they went
But they did not continue e'er
Common fate, death, did share
But Christ our high priest now is here
Worship with lowly fear
His priesthood e'er unchangeable
Saving to uttermost all
For He is able e'er to save
As he His life He gave
And now does live, eternally
Intercedes e'en for me
We come to God through Christ the Son
He Saviour, Holy One
Sharing in man's identity
He fully God, [and] Man, be
And what the nature of this priest?
Who invites us to feast
Of His own body and His blood
Sparkling redemption flood
'Tis such a one, holy, harmless
Undefiled, He will bless
Separate from sinners, He be
No sin found in Him, see
Yet sinners He does not off cast
Forgives sins present, past
He higher than the heavens too
Though reaching e'en to you
He needs not to, as priests of old
Their daily sins retold
Needs not to offer for His own
Sins, He has none, He alone
Yet sacrificed Himself He did
Offered Himself, not hid
Once given, perfect and complete
A high eternal feat
The law does make high priests of men
They continue not then
For ever, but for mortal span
They no more than that can
But Christ was made priest with an oath
He Priest and Victim both
He Christ the Son, consecrated is
Evermore, He us bids
