THE SAND DUNES ~ 21 MILES BETWEEN LIVERPOOL & SOUTHPORT
C OASTS are so important in the UK
O PEN to the Atlantic Ocean ~ West
A ND the North Sea on the East ~ and to the
S TORMY English Channel on the South side
T HE UK's a triangle ~ surrounded
A LL SIDES by water ~ which both protects ~ but
L ASHES us with waves ~ every DAY & NIGHT !
E ROSION is inevitable on
R UGGED coasts ~ so exposed to the Oceans
O UR houses are falling into the sea
S TORMS are more severe ~ Sea levels rising
I T IS DUE to Global Warming ! Sand Dunes
O N West Coast of England ~ twenty-one miles
N OW threatened ~ lost habitats and species !

The UK has more exposed coastline (per land area) than any
other Country in Europe. The next 50 years will be a crucial daily
battle against Coastal Erosion ~ Please be as GREEN as you can !

- Comment from author about the poem: Please remember ~ wherever you live in the Global Village (Planet Earth !) your CO2 emissions affect every cubic meter of the atmosphere causing Global Warming due to the well established Greenhouse Effect ! This causes sea levels to rise ~ due to global warming ~ and more severe storms and hurricanes on our coasts. The UK is especially vulnerable due to its very high Coast to Land Area ratio ! I have just visited the 21 miles of sand dunes on the N W ~ Coast of England ~ which is an important "Area of Natural Beauty" between the important Tourist Centres of Liverpool (home of the Beatles etc) and Southport ! The "Dunes" have a wide variety of halophytes (salt loving plants) and Red Squirrels in the Pine Forests planted to hold back erosion. We can all help to prevent Global Pollution ~ each individual is responsible so ~ by being GREENER it does make difference ! If you live in KENTUCKY (USA) your house won't fall into the sea ~ but if you drive a gas~guzzler (instead of riding a bike !) you might cause my Mum's house (in S E England !) to fall into the North Sea. Because C02 is a gas it doesn't need a passport to cross National Boundaries ! My C02 also reaches Kentucky quicker than the BEA flight to Louisville ! Welcome back and a great warning - why does no one in power take this seriously enough I ask.
Thanks MICHAEL ~ There are those in Authority who believe it\'s part of a Natural Cycle and others who say "Why bother an individual can\'t make any difference" ~ but we can. People in their 30\'s will still be alive in 2060 when things could be a lot worse environmentally. Also you can get inversions ~ sudden changes (for the worse) and the planet could become uninhabitable for H. Sapiens and there is nowhere else to go ! Watch this Space ! Good to be back ~ BRIAN

Thanks "O" what you say is true. For thousands of years MAN lived in harmony (equilibrium) with Nature and the CO2 produced by the FAUNA ans Volcanoes etc was processed by the plants and converted (together with H2O into carbohydrates (food) and OXYGEN ! About 200 years ago The Industrial Revolution started and deforestation and the CO" increased form 250 ppm to over 400 ppm ~ which resulted in Global Waming ~ ice cap melt ~ sea level rise. This is GAIA fighting back to restore equilibrium ! As you say the PLANET will become uninhabitable for MAN and there is nowhere else to go. Personally I try to reverse this by being GREENER ~ OK ~ BRIAN
H SAPIENS occupies a very important niche in NATURE ! Because we have super-intelligence we have been bale to harness the natural resources of Planet Earth and through technology we have been able to inhabit the Whole Earth and even the Moon and possibly Mars ? But of course we cannot outwit GAIA who is eternal (in terms of a human life span ~ now set @125 max !) Like HAMAN (Bible ~ Book of Esther) we may end up hoisted by our own Technological Petard ! Thanks STEVEN ! I thought with it being the NW Coast it would be as cold and as wet a the forecast. In th even it didn't rain and it was about 10C (= 50F). It was quite windy so hat & gloves needed ~ Yours BRIAN

Well I monitor erosion as part of my job "Teaching Students on an Environmental Courses" The Agencies are aware but it costs money to reverse the ravages of NATURE on our Coasts. BRIAN

Thanks CHRIS ~ as i have explained Global Warming and Sea level Rise is a much bigger problem in the UK tan the USA. One of the "100 Problems with Trump" is that he is NOT a conservationist so the USA will be less GREEN under his Presidency. It is a serious subject ! Green Hugs ~ BRIAN
SO many people advert their eyes to our damaged earth. While there may be a cycle that she is going through, we are hurting her more and more every day for the sake of our "progress". We are killer her and therefore ourselves.
