What We Had.

Fay Slimm.

What We Had

.
A moment in time.
is all it takes to create
a closure
to something that lasted
for so very long.
One moment arrives
to abdicate, fold
away in practised phrases
of chosen style,
a lifetime's duo, smeared
with abrasive
short quick goodbyes.
Why is it not seen
that a much treasured affair
can slowly change,
become cracked, out-worn,
a broken has-been
in which two unhappy souls
are now ready for war.
For one more moment,
show me again, dear love
of my heart
what we had before

Thanks FAY ~ I meet this scenario too often in all walks of life ~ tensions come in ~ love dies and the sacred bond is broken ! What first drew them together and grew in love ~ WHAT THY HAD BEFORE ~ does not last for ever and when it ies they separate. I see it at work ~ in my extended Family and even in my Church Family. The sad thing iss it is seldom amicable and never equal. On partner is always hurt more than the other sometimes ~ much much more ~ and that is very sad. Thanks for caring & sharing ~ Yours B.

So well written - the pain of breaking up - can't imagine what is like to suffer this but the poem goes a long way to explain.

this is such a sad lament, your words though delicately laid carry such a weight and flow.. probably one of the most anguished and understandable pleas I have encountered for a long time.... this is certainly a poem any poet would be proud to have written..... .. Neville
