Fits tune: Ach Gott Und Herr (= O God and Lord)
('Strengthen for service, Lord, the hands')
Based on a Formal Prayer
********
Goodness' fountain, God Almighty
Look on our nation, do see
Kings, Queens, Governments, our plea
[That] They lowly, penitent be
This our prayer that they may order
According to your will sure
All things in righteousness and peace
Enhance your kingdom, uncease (unceasingly)
And too in wisdom, equity
That your fair judgement we see
All to the honour of your name
Lord, who remains e'er the same
For the good too of your church here
Your saving mercies appear
And for people of every race
Comfort them by your true grace
Lord our petitions now do hear
We ask all with godly fear
And in the name of Christ your Son
Who saves, He the only one

Was you there (with me) Goldie, when St Ephraem the Syrian wrote the original around 350AD?!
Yes I was there, who do you think critiqued it for him!
Another great piece of composition O
Thanks M.
THANKS STEVEN ~ For another fine Poem based on a hymn tune. The beauty of Hymns ANCIENT ~ is they always Rhyme and always have Rhythm (scan !). This is equally true of your "Hymn based Poems" I I have printe them with a view to reciting them in a Service ~ Thanks BRIAN
Thanks Brain. You're welcome to say, or even sing them, in Service. Well, a Choirmaster/Organist did prepare one song once (originally a 'said' poem). I don't hate modern, but some places don't have traditional. They say it's not where they're "at". But there's literally hundreds of hymns I've not heard of, or don't know the tune to! Really, even if my range seems copious!
You are a daily inspiration to all who read . Or should be if they opened their eyes . Thanks , keep posting .
Thanks S.
Good write.
Thanks G. Did ya help old St E.?! Well, he was not that old. Maybe just looks old from some pics.
