Ludwig.

Goldfinch60

He composed so many works,

His compositions are renowned,

Loved by all.

The nine symphonies live on,

Live on in concert halls around the world,

Their sound embedded in the fabric,

The fabric of the building.

The piano concertos and sonatas are the same,

Sounds so wonderful, so joyous.

I had to visit his graveside

And sit with this man of music.

As I sat there in humble contemplation,

I heard this strange sound,

The sound of his music,

But it was being played backwards.

I just did not understand,

Then I realised what was happening,

Beethoven was laying there,

Decomposing!

I know you like Mozart but for me Beethoven is way above him - my favourite composer of them all - I can listen to his work any time, any place, great tribute Goldfinch.

The hardest question to answer is "What is your favourite piece of music?" I cannot decide which genre of music is my favourite let alone which piece. I end up with a glib answer saying "The piece of music that I am listening to at the moment"

I am not sure that I have a favourite but there is one piece I keep returning to time after time and which I have included in my directions to be played at my funeral - a depressing thought I know but I must say I don't say the piece is depressing - I find it just serene and so beautiful. It's the Rachmaninoff Cello Sonata 3rd movement - I've just encouraged myself to put it on the turntable - well on YouTube actually .

A fine write G. Something of your sub-conscious tuned in to that experience you had?! I only tuned in last night to some clips of Ode To Joy. Some rip-roaring singing! The also put the tune to a hymn in a Cathedral Service I went to. Hymn had 9 verses! heehee.
        Oh, I get it - de-composing!

It sunk in at last, were you on the sherry last night!

Wow - what a fantastic parody by Dudley and to think I never saw this before - - yes I would think Beethoven would really decompose after this. Great first read this morning.

            Thanks Fay, much appreciated.

Thanks ANDY for a double whammy ! A tribute to LUDWIG and also Dudley Moore (a great Concert pianist and a great Comedian) ~ sadly missed. My Dad is Church organist and a fine Pianist and my earliest recollections of Ludwig is the Moonlight Sonata (my fave.) coming up through the bedroom floor when my Dad was practicing ! Thanks for sharing the music and a Poem that was both solemn & droll ~ Real Dudleyesque. We recently had a recital in which a variation on the Lambeth Walk was played ~ in the style of Chopin ! Thanks again BRIAN

The music was almost as remarkable as the man . The obstacles he had to overcome confiirms his genius . We should leave deafening applause .
