Rogation - from 'Rogare - to ask'
One of three days before Ascension Day
Fits tune: Laus Deo
('Bright the vision that delighted')
Matthew 6 v.1 - 15
********
Take heed, do not alms before men
For that your reward be then
Sound not trumpets as hypocrites
Do, man's praise for them befits
And when you pray be in secret
Not as does the hypocrite
Praying to be seen of men sure
Boasting in man's pride e'ermore
But give, pray, and fast in secret
With hearts, minds, to Father knit
Pray not with vain repetition
Not performance, audition
For the heathen they do think so
When they to times of prayer go
That they be heard for much speaking
Multitudes of words they bring
Be not like to them, the Lord taught
Vain repeatings avail nought
For your Father knows all our needs
Before we ask, He us feeds
So pray as the 'Lord's Prayer' daily
He will look on us and see
Grant petitions, His kingdom come
And His perfect will be done

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8787 metre. i know, it's easy to dash in to prayers sometimes. We may start with 'Give us this day our daily bread' - what WE need or want.

Thanks STEVEN for another fine poem and a nice bit of ORGAN MUSIC ~ Pipe organs play the Music of Heaven ! I was in Liverpool recently and able to hear the Wallis Organ in Liverpool Anglican Cathedral 10,300 pipes ~ AN AWESOME SOUND ! The LORD's PRAYER is awesome in both its simplicity and its profundity. Even though I attend an FIEC Church ~ little or no ritual ~ we did all recite the Lord's Prayer together ~ from the AV "trespasses and all". Thanks for your poem another gem ! Yours JOHN
Thanks B.
Another reminder of the day ofJesus's assecension into heaven . A sight few beheld , the rest must take by faith . And our supplications in prayer in private just for the ears of God and Jesus brings us closer to our maker and savior .
Good write Orchi.
Thanks G. See, vain repeatings! Like when you kept repeatings to me in 1066 not to tell Harold to look up. But I didn't listen, did I?! heehee. And why does it keep underlining 'repeatings' in red on here, as if it's an incorrect word? I repeat, why.....? Oh do shut up now, Orchi! lol.
