Stillness Around Me

Goldfinch60

I sit quietly in the garden,

The day drawing to a close,

The stillness around me,

The soft sounds of Debussy

In the background,

Accompanying the orchestra of birds

As they settle for the evening.

I look up from my book

And listen,

Listen to the music,

Listen to nature,

Transported to ecstasy.

The stillness still surrounds me,

Protecting me from the rigours of haste.

I quietly calm down from the day,

With reading, music and nature,

Preparing me for the night,

Where sleep will strengthen me,

To be ready for another day.

Ah - I will be there tonight doing just this (if it isn't raining and probably listening to Sibelius) plus, of course a gin and tonic with ice and lemon.

        • Goldfinch60

The only way to have gin and tonic, but mine more often or not is a Laphroaig Triple Wood Scotch.
I too like Sibelius and have most of his works, his Violin Concerto is wonderful.

So few people can make a good gin and tonic and when they use the saccharine version - yuck!

Beautiful poem, Goldfinch! One I can relate to, but my therapeutic choice would be Vivaldi ... the strings really do it for me. I look forward to more of your work.

Thank you Louis, I can understand how you feel about Vivaldi. I listen to many composers and they each reach different parts of me.

                Well said, Goldfinch!
