The Church of No Thanks.

Goldfinch60

For five years I have done it,

Five years a Steward at my Church.

So much time given to help,

Help people, ministers and everyone.

I had to stop

As my loved one needed me,

Needed me more as her health was lost,

Lost to the world of dementia.

So the annual meeting was held,

They said that I and another were retiring,

Both of us having carried out five years,

Five years of a four year assignment.

We had given so much to the Church,

So much of our lives given,

No reward was expected,

But a thank you would have been nice.

It had happened before,

The thank you that was never given.

I wrote and ran the Church website,

Ran it for twelve years

And when I gave that up it was the same

Not one word of thanks.

Is thank you from my Church banned,

Banned to those who work so hard,

To help the Church.

I had no thanks from something over a short time-span. Not that we expect or demand it, but nice to notice we are (or were) actually there.
"You done your stint. Bye then. We'll boot you out the back door"! doh!

GIVE THANKS ~ Not OTT ~ they don't like fuss !

Thanks ANDY ~ send them my Poem
All the Churches I have served in have been
EVANGELICAL ~ Spirit filled Churches and my
experience is that the LEADERSHIP TEAM have
always been very profuse in their thanks for anyone
who has performed s key role in the Church. Sorry about
Your experience ~ it is very UNGODLY ~ BRIAN

So sad , I know you were appreciated in Heaven . Shake the dust from your shoes and move on .

    • Goldfinch60

I always move on, there is no use living in the past l thank you S.

I know you don't do these things to get thanked but it is so disheartening when all your efforts go unrecognised. I was a member of our local Patients Group at the local Medical practice and gave a lot of help and advice which was adopted and acted upon (bearing in mind my medical legal background) but when I retired from the committee I didn't even get an acknowledgement to my letter - all that happened was that all communication from the practice ceased. Yes some folk are so anal and self absorbed. Your poem captures it well.

.We, who give much, are often taken for granted it seems. I feel you, Goldfinch

        Thanks Louis, most kind.

Maybe they'll miss you, now you've gone?! doh! Pity they may have had to wait until you were gone (not in the Steward role).

I will still be there at Church singing my head off in the choir.

        • WriteBeLight

I offer my thanks to you for your faithful service! And, I agree. They should have thanked you appropriately! 🙂

          • Goldfinch60

Thank you WBL. Just a small word would have been fine, but no matter I will not worry about it and still go to Church as I am in the Choir which is great.

          • Augustus

That hurts. My heart goes out to you.

            • Goldfinch60

Thank you Augustus but I will not worry about it, it is passed and life is too important to worry about things like that. A mere blip in my life.
