  • Comment from author about the poem: IN the UK in the Summer you will find an ICE CREAM VAN ~ with a CHEEKY ICE CREAM MAN everywhere ! In the Park ~ in the Mall ~ At the Beach and even outside Church on a Sunday Morning. They tour the streets with their merry tines ! STOP ME & BUY ONE is there slogan and how they pack so many flavours shapes and sizes into one little Van is a space defying miracle. So whatever else you do today ~ Please buy an ICE CREAM ~ AMEN ~ Love to All ~ BRIAN XOX

They are so great as are these words. Just one disagreement though it was many, many years ago that you could just spend pennies on an ice-cream!

Yes ANDY ~ My Grandparents remember ~ when an Ice Cream Cornet was a PENNY (old currency) now more like a pound ! In my local Theatre a tub is £2:50 ($4) a cardboard tub ! I that progress ? Still on a hot day my Motto is ~ Never mind the price ~ taste the flavour. ! I'm just posting my ICE CREAM Fusion ~ please add you flavour ~ Thanks BRIAN

Great write - I love the stuff but my waistline doesn't - oh the trials and tribulations of a discerning palette.

Thanks MICHAEL ~ Unfortunately ~ We are what we eat and the DEVIL has so decreed that all the tasty things are fattening ! BRIAN

A yummy write! Then it rained... and they all dashed indoors, and the ice cream van was no where to be seen! heehee. I'm an old spoilsport.
And 'Feed the birds, tuppence a bag'. Two quid a bag now, more like! heehee.

Well STEVEN my Parents tell me tales of COALMEN ~ MILKMEN ~ RAG & BONE MEN who toured our streets with a Horse & Cart and people collected the droppings for their rhubarb. ICE CREAM MEN always used VANS or BIKE ( to keep the ice cream cool) to some extent they are anachronistic and being replaced by ICE CREAM PARLOURS ~ but i hope they go on for ever. Kids in the 21st C are still excited by the \"Tune of the Ice Cream Van\" ~ Thnaks BRIAN

In my day, where I grew up, they were the 'Good Humor Man', appropriately named I'd say. Enjoyed your poem, Brian.

Thanks LOUIS for you encouraging commet ~ In my experience ~ The Men & Ladies who operate ICE CREAM VANS are by nature optimists (you have to be with English Weather) and ply their trade with Good Humor ~ Thanks BRIAN

I remember the sherbet cones that had a surprise figure on the top of the handle. In our neighborhood, if you got the one with the horse standing on its hind quarters you got free ice cream. Great job bringing back those memories Brian!

Thanks HONEY ~ Memories are made of such as this ! There is much more choice today ~ but at a PRICE. As I mentioned an ice cream (served in a cardboard tub) in our local Theater or Cinema is £2:50 ($4) ! We buy them of course having paid a minimum of £10 ($14) for the seat and up to £2:50 ($4) for a Theater Program and £3 ($4) or more to park the car ! Much cheaper to stay at home and watch "Out of Date" Films on TV ! Thanks BRIAN.

THANKS CHRIS ~ Like so many things they are a disappearing breed ! You have great ICE CREAM PARLORS in the Malls but it's not the same as the ICECREAMY appearing in your street with his tune and his 2 cent cone ! Yes I liked the picture too ~ Ice cream is a happiness drug ! OOPS I'll make sure Panda does not end up in Peru ! Creamy hugs ~ BRIAN
