C U B A ~ In the 1920's to 50's ~ Curruption ~ Cocktails ~ Casinos controlled
by American Gangsters from Miaimi. The Regime was led by Batista from 1940
U N T I L the regime was overthrown by Fiedel Castro in 1959 who established
a Communist Dictatorship with strong support from the USSR. CUBA prospered and
B E C A M E almost 100 % literate with an excellent Health Sevice. USA saw CUBA
as a threat which led to the failed Bay of Pigs invasion 1961 & the Missile Crisis 1962
A M E R I C A and most of S America severed trade links with CUBA and she became
heavily dependent on the USSR and China for trade and Military Forces and supplies.
The disolusion of the USSR (1991) had a severe economic effect on CUBA up to 1994
when foreign investment into CUBA and TOURISM was encouraged. In 2015 Barak
Obama and Raul Castro re-established Diplomatic Links between the USA & CUBA !

- Comment from author about the poem: CUBA is one of those Countries which gets mixed reviews from Tourists ! It is on everybody's list but some are put off by negative reports. Brits ~ who have visited recently have advised me to go ~ before Trump remodels it and all the old American cars are replaced by much less interesting (but more reliable ?) modern ones. My main interests are Educational ~ looking at the Architecture ~ Music ~ Dance ~ Cuisine ~ Culture ~ Fashion etc. Spanish is my second language so I should be OK. We will start in Havana and visit the Western side of the Island ~ Comments welcome ~ Love to All ~ BRIAN XOX

An interesting one. The generally held western take on the Cuban missile crisis of 1962 is, at the least, highly questionable when seen through neutral eyes.
Well in essence KHRUSHCHEV was just rattling his SABRE. When he saw how JFK reacted ~ he felt they had done their job and took them back to Russia ! INTERESTING HISTORICAL EPISODE ! BRIAN
He sure rattled it and some would argue with justification after JFK had threatened to invade - so yes perhaps they had done their job.

THANKS CHRIS ~ Personally I liked OBAMA who was Democratic DOVE ~ unlike Trump who is a Republican HAWK ! Obama created better relations with the Muslim Countries and of course CUBA ! I ill miss MPS when I am away ~ but hope to have some Poems ~ related to CUBA when I return ~ HUGS BRIAN
A colleague of mine and his family went on holiday to Cuba two years running he thought it was the best place he had ever been to.
