DESERTED GRAVEYARD
Gaunt trees in skeleton reach down
their shadowed fingers crawl and grasp
forgotten stones and empty urns.
Where centuries of pain lie trapped
and empty hands reach out
for earthly title dispossessed
Primeval fear and piercing wail
the earthless fate of those beneath
denied the arches of the sky.

Very good write. Liked the painting as well.
Thanks G - not sure where this one came from - I'm usually a happy chappy!
Sometimes our mind latches onto strange thoughts and it is good to put them into words.
A fine write M. Yet even a fairly local graveyard, that has been full for years now, I think, looked nice in the summery sun.
No-one more can come in - it's full up! Should we have booked a place, probably in the 19th Century?! ooh.
It was empty in 1066
Tee hee M. You with me and Goldfinch? We're the 1066 brigade, who eat pork pies, and drink sherry! Well, I do the eating and drinking part anyway, at least. And - the Boer War. Do I remember it? I was in it! Was you in it too?! lol.
1066 - I remember it well. I was on the throne at the time - I eat too many pies. As for the Boer war I was promoted to person in charge of ice cream sales and was awarded a VD and Scar.
A fine pic too as always!
Wonderful illustration for the piece. Bravo Michael.
Thanks Frank
Very good Michael
Really enjoyed this one
Cheers PH
Beautiful piece, Michael! Thanks for sharing it.
Thanks Louis
A perfect Picture ~ A perfect Poem ! I love old graveyards ~ great places for photography and I love the inscriptions. All Old Churches should have semi-deserted graveyards. I don't like cremation ~ hygienic but too clinical and no grave ! Thanks for caring & sharing ~ your sentiments in the trilogy ~ match mine exactly ! BRIAN
Thanks Brian - we have a 12th Century church in the village and there are some great gravestones - sadly the really old ones are almost impossible to read.
I really liked the poem and the watercolor is beauiful too.
Thanks so much for looking in and for your kind comment Fred.
Great write, love the picture
Appreciate your comments Tony.
Welcome
*applauds* Lonesome and haunting. Enjoyed!
