I wrote these two poems a few months ago when I had some difficulties writing. They were only meant for me, to help me get out of the writing doldrums. But after having been welcomed so nicely at this forum, I decided to publish them as a dedication to all of you writers. You probably know that empty head feeling, with fingers hovering over the keyboard not doing anything, and the eyes just staring into the distance. Well, thank you for your kindness!
Writing Poems
Writing a poem is
Just like throwing up
feeling the urge
The frantic dash
To the typewriter
Pulling paper
The words
Gushing out
Uncontrolled
Reading it, then
Ripping the paper
Flushing it
Down the toilet
Writer’s Block
The computer screen is
Staring me in the face
Like an empty paper
Without life or grace
I want to fill it all with
Letters, words, and more
Bring this ship of sentences
Safely to the shore
But no matter how
Hard I work and try
My inability to write
Makes me want to cry
It is extremely sad to be
A writer with not much success
Quietly sitting here alone
Loaded down by stress
Suddenly there is
An inkling of a thought
But on a closer look
It is all for naught
Staring mutely at the screen
I give in to a hunch
Nothing more will happen
I’m going out for lunch

Most have been there, that empty page or blank screen can sometimes be very daunting. Good writes.
Great write but not something I usually experience. If an idea comes to me I scribble down a few ideas and then play around with them until I get a poem out of it as with yesterdays poem. Other than that I have a notebook into which I put phrases, words that appeal, ideas etc. that come to me at any time, when reading, watching TV, talking to others etcetera and I have the book with me at all times. These ideas are usually quite disjointed and unrelated. I never sit in front of a screen and think what to write about.
What I do is type a series of entries from the book (I score through them in the book so I don't repeat them again later) and usually they trigger an idea for a poem. If they don't I leave them in my documents and add to them from time to time until something jumps out of the woodwork at me. That's exactly how todays poem Deserted Graveyard came about.
Well done for persisting Fred.
Bravo
Great two poems sir
Enjoyed them so much.
I'd love to write on a typewriter
Unfortunately I'm illiterate
And cannot spell or produce
Grammar. My saviour is
Spell check and perdictive text.
Charming poems, Fred. Certainly worth sharing!
Thanks FRED two GREAT ODES ~ To make us all realise that to most of us POETRY does not come natural ~ like writing recipes ! BUT when the MUSE MOVES it is much more effective than "Syrup of Figs! Thanks for caring & sharing ~ BRIAN
Thank you! Even though writing is a solitary art, I do not feel alone after reading all your comments. I am looking forward to your constructive criticisms on my future poems.
Great writes
