MOTHER'S ENGLISH COUNTRY GARDEN

BRIAN & ANGELA

WHAT TYPES OF FLOWERS ~ are there that grow

In Mother's English Country Garden

I will just mention the ones that I know

If I miss some please accept my pardon !

There are Lupins and Hollyhocks

And hedges of neat trimmed Box

Roses ~ Hydrangeas and dainty Phlox

Girls with blond  hair and very skimpy frocks

In Mother's English Country Garden !

Tables and a bath for BIRDS

A Waterfall that's seldom heard

Daffodils & Tulips (you'll have to take my word)

And an Arizona Cactus ~ now that is absurd

In Mother's English Country Garden !

Snowdrops and Forget~me~nots

Pansies ~ like polka dots

Spicy Peppers ~ that give me the trots

Spuds and Carrots planted ~ neat in plots

In Mother's English Country Garden !

I go each Sunday ~ to help my Mother weed

For that she gives me a Super Sunday Feed

But she grows her Veggies to share with those in need

And not so that we ~ can satisfy our greed

In Mother's English Country Garden !

Thanks for visiting ~ comments welcome ~ Love BRIAN XOX

  • Comment from author about the poem: The ENGLISH are famous Worldwide for the variety and ingenuity of their Gardens. This is exemplified each year by the amazing Royal Chelsea Flower Show ! However small ~ each Garden is packed with varieties to suit each season. Global Warming (don't tell TRUMP) has enabled us to introduce more exotic species and extended new varieties into N. Ireland ~ Wales and Scotland. Each Garden has a Bird Bath & Table and many have Ponds with a Waterfall. Garden Centres are a multi billion pound industry and provide excellent employment opportunity for Young People interested in Horticulture. Our Universities now offer degrees in Garden Design and landscaping. Each UK Garden is enclosed and American Visitors are always amazed at what we do ~ artistically with our Gardens ~ transforming dull Yards into the Garden of Eden ! Simple and corporate Gardens make the World a better and more beautiful place and give us a chance to showcase the infinite variety of form ~ fragrance ~ colour of flowering and ornamental plants that God has blessed out Planet with ~ AMEN Does you Mum have Country Garden ? A fabulous, funny parody on the original song. A great way to start my day. A couple of years ago I wrote a parody on this song for a sketch I had written ( I write comedy - poetry is new for me!)and like yours, there was, amongst the humour - an underlying message. This is a great way to raise awareness of many of the world's current troubles. Well done.
Ps: I do have a lovely English garden- trouble is, it rains a lot.

Yes an old folk song Country Gardens which was orchestrated by Percy Grainger. My own garden is more formal but has many visitors when we open it to the public each year in aid of charity - mind you I also open my studio so its a double whammy for me. love the poem and there are so many more flowers you could write another one.

Your poem was awesome! Loved the rhyme and rhythm. Simply stunning! Yes in-law has an expansive garden that doesn't have everything you listed but does have my requirement--lily of the valley and a lilac bush. And the staples like roses and tulips and herbs. Wonderful poem today! hugs--Christina

THANKS FRED ~ poetry is always very persuasive ~ I have an allotment which I use with Students at the College. When i was Young our garden was always full of Blond Girls with short dresses. I think it was because my MUM only had one Daughter and three Sons and she wanted us to meet suitable Girls ! So we had Swings & Playhouses etc ~ say no more ! BRIAN
