Mind

FredPeyer

Was looking at the stars tonight

Thinking of other living worlds

Somewhere out there

Wondering if light-years away

Some intelligent being is

Staring at his sky

Wondering the same thing

I feel very small and unimportant

My life less than a blink

In the life of the universe

My size less than a speck of dust

In the immensity of our galaxy

The planet I live on

Only one of billions

But my mind is huge

Bigger than the universe

My soul is old

Older than the galaxy

Faster than the speed of light

Seeing and loving my brother

Thinking of me on that distant world

outstanding! I followed every line. the universe is endless and so are we.

    • FredPeyer

Thank you Paul, I appreciate your comment, and I agree.

    • burning-embers

I like your style here. Drawn me into your thoughts there and bigger questions, like - do those beings share our spiritual nature. Every civilization on earth has had a spiritual good and bad ethic etc. It's those last two lines.

      • FredPeyer

Thanks so much for your kind comment. Let's hope that they as a society are so far ahead of us that there is no more good or bad, but only good.

      • kevin browne

seeing and loving your brother I guess is a desire you have. God will shine down on you and help you through your traumas. thank you for sharing your intimate feeling.

        • FredPeyer

Thank you Kevin, I appreciate your comment. Don't think I have any traumas though, at least none that I know of. 🙂

          • kevin browne

then I was mistaken for writing that. my apologies.

            • FredPeyer

              Absolutely no apologies needed!!!
Living in Hawaii for a long time I got so used to the term "Bro" that it became a natural expression. In the poem I could have said "Friend", or "Buddy", instead of brother. But brother seemed to fit better.
BTW, at my age, the younger people here now all call me "Uncle", which is a common address for older people.

              • kevin browne

                okay Uncle, thank you kindly.

              • Michael Edwards

Sets you down then lifts you up - great work Fred.

                • FredPeyer

Thank you Michael, you are so right, we are nothing and we are everything!

                • Renzi

A Remarkable soul and mind i must confess 💓

                  • FredPeyer

I assume you are talking about my brother on that distant planet, right?

                  • Fay Slimm.

We are made with eternity held inside and this lovely read reminds us that small though our body is we are as old as the soul we own. Thanks for your poetic thoughts here Fred.

                    • FredPeyer

Absolutely right Fay, and if you believe like I do that the soul is eternal, then we are really, really old.

                    • Goldfinch60

Good write, they are out there and one day we will meet them.

                      • FredPeyer

Thanks Goldfinch, I sincerely hope so. And it would be great if it would happen during my lifetime. But the chance of that is getting smaller by the day.

                      • Louis Gibbs

Your 'huge mind' and 'old soul' come across in this fine poem, Fred. I'm sure our brothers out there are aware of us too, and are quite concerned.

                        • FredPeyer

Thanks Louis, and I hope if they are concerned, they will do something about it. (See my response to Goldfinch)

                          • FredPeyer

Sorry Louis, meant my response to Lori, not Goldfinch.

                            • Louis Gibbs

I think we are going to have to, as a body, recognize and accept them before help from them is forthcoming.

                              • FredPeyer

To, as a body, recognize and accept an alien civilization would only happen if that alien civilization would have the power to destroy earth, since only a threat of that magnitude would force all of us on this earth to stick together. That's my take anyway.

                              • malubotelho

Thanks for this beautiful write. I like to think that we are all connected through this ruge universe and I always like to feel that connection before going to sleep. Thinking this way I never feel lonely.

                                • FredPeyer

You cannot feel lonely Malu, you have us on this forum! 🙂

Just as the natural world is connected throughout, so are we. I am absolutely convinced (without any proof) that there is a brother out there somewhere who feels the way I do.

THANKS FRED ~ For SHARING ~ an interesting Poem and for RAISING (in our minds) some interesting questions. I am a BIOCHEMIST and there is a false assumption that "If the conditions were right ~ anywhere in the Universe ~ LIFE would arise spontaneously". A priori because the Universe is so vast there must be some Parallel Earth-like Planets out there inhabited by Intelligent Beings ~ just like us ! Of course this is all Science Fiction and there is no evidence that Life arose spontaneously on Earth and the Theory of Evolution that flows from that (to explain the myriad Species on Planet Earth) is also still A THEORY 158 years later. Have you considered the complexity of Life on Earth with its complex food chains & webs and the Mineral Cycles (water ~ carbon ~ oxygen ~ nitrogen) why our planet has so much water and an atmosphere of Oxygen (21%) and Nitrogen (78%) ~ and an ambient temperature which is still only 16C and a super moon etc etc ~ A LIVING PLANET ! Now look at our lifeless neighbours MARS & VENUS and ask yourself why ? Also observe that the other Planets in the Solar System are even less habitable ~ if we mess up Planet Earth ~ THERE IS NOWHERE ELSE TO GO ! This is why I post so many Poems about CONSERVATION ! I have studied Science since I was TEN (23 years ago !) and the only Truth I find about the origin of the Universe ~ The Solar System ~ Planet earth and Life on Earth etc is in the BIBLE the Word of God ! the first verse states "In the beginning ~ GOD created the Heavens and the Earth etc etc" Genesis 1 v 1. Even atheistic Scientists admit ~ that that explanation (God did it !) is just as viable as anything they have to offer ! I rest my case. What's your explanation ? Yours BRIAN

                                  • FredPeyer

Just playing devil's advocate here, don't want to upset anybody!

Yes, it says in Genesis 1: ...GOD created the Heavens and Earth..." Heavens in plural. Now just in theory, could this refer to multiple Heavens and therefore multiple Earths? Egocentric as we are, we assume that there is only one earth and we are it. What if GOD created a whole lot of them, spread throughout the Universe? Too far for us to see, hear, or know about?
                                    Just a question.

                                    • BRIAN & ANGELA

Thanks for your reply FRED and I agree with what you say ! When i am asked ~ how would you feel if a UFO did arrive from another Planet in the Universe ~ My answer would be the same as you imply. That LIFE could only exist elsewhere in the UNIVERSE if GOD chose to create it there. My thesis is that GOD is TRANSCENDENT ~ He CREATED Life on Earth and that GOD is IMMANENT and 24/7 SUSTAINS Life on Earth. One of my Duties as a Scientist is to make sure that people don't confuse SCIENCE FACT with SCIENCE FICTION ~ OK ~ BRIAN

Interesting poem. Thinking about the sky beyond the sky is what so many do all the time. I enjoyed the poem, tyfs!

It is amazing what can go through someone's mind when looking at the stars. Thank you for your comment.
