I am a Leftie - And proud of it!

FredPeyer

I am a Lefty

Hope you don’t mind

Can’t help it, I do

Belong to the other kind

Long ago in a different time

Lefties were burned at the stake

Possessed by the devil

Drowned in a lake

Thank goodness

Today it’s not as bad

We’re allowed to live

And that’s rather rad

A lot of us though don’t

Make it to old age

But we live rather well

Till exiting left of stage

We’re smarter, faster,

Better than the right

No matter our color

Be it black or white

We are like that

Cos everything’s wrong

Just seems to be right

But that makes us strong

We lefties are inventive

Turning right into left

For us life is difficult

We need to be deft

It’s not just the hand,

But the foot and the eye

That make us different

And nobody knows why

Writing, painting,

All the fine art

Are the endeavors

That set us apart

That glorious mix-up

Inside our stellar brain

Grants us the freedom

To be noble and vain

Only one in ten people

Is blessed with this gift

That’s why we’re so special

If you get my drift

I am a lefty

And real proud of that

Running circles around

Righties, in no time flat

Note to reader: Just for the fun of it, please comment with either the word "right" or the word "left",

or, if you would like to write a comment, please add either one of these two words at the end, depending

on whether you are right or left handed.

This informal "survey" will hopefully show us the percentage of left-handers on this writer's forum. General population

is about 10%, but here it could be different!

A fine write Fred. Ah yes, the left hand was seen as bad, and the right hand as good, at least by Jews, and maybe others too. I'm not Jewish myself.
There's another bit I picked up on right/left hands, but bit long to explain here.

  • onepauly

left right left right left right.
    I'm marching in a parade.
    macys thanksgiving day parade
oh yeah I'm a righty. what are you left with.

  • Goldfinch60

Good write. I seem to have noticed recently that I come across more and more left handed people. I my self am right handed and when I sit down at the piano I wonder what the left hand is there for!

  • burning-embers

So you're biased to your left, right? It's no understatement when you know that cant be right, so a statement like yours is just best left. Right away i knew you'd want to bring politics into this lifestyle too or is that best left? Was grandma left handed too? Did the pullover she knitted fit you better than right handed Aunt Mabel's sock's?

b-e, that must be one of the best comments I ever got! Thank you for recognizing that the whole poem war written for fun. Have to point out though that lefties ARE special! 🙂
      PS: Assume you are right!

You've got it dead right = or in case dead left

      • FredPeyer

Thanks Michael, doesn't matter if right or left, as long as I am not dead 🙂

        • Michael Edwards

You'll be pleased to know you're not dead Fred - well you weren't at 14.23 USA time.

When nothing is going right, go LEFT.
What a fun poem 🙂 tell me though.. what about the ambidextrous? :p

          • FredPeyer

Good advise about going left Renzi, need to remember that!
I don't call it ambidextrous (even though that is the correct name), I call it bi-lingual since I am always talking with my hands.
Seriously, without having any scientific research to prove my point, my personal opinion is that lefties are probably ahead of righties when it comes to using either hand. We have no choice, a lot of equipment is made for righties, so we have to adapt.
In my case, I can write with either one, was forced in school to learn writing with the right hand (which for me obviously was the wrong one!)
Can write with both simultaneously, but only the same text.

Cute your poem. You are left but right when you say left has some advantage. I agree. I'm right but my stronger side is my left if it counts. All my left side is better than the right. My older son is left and he is overall better than most people I know. If I want an opinion I always ask him. You shine.

            • FredPeyer

Thanks so much for the compliments regarding lefties. We need all the goodwill we can get! 🙂

            • Heather T

Several lefties in the family, but I'm a righty. I hope your penmanship is better than my left handed dad, poor thing.

            • Nicholas Browning

I've heard that left handed people lead bad lives. I can't say though, because I'm right handed. There are some things I do better with my left though. Good spot of fun, Fred.

              • FredPeyer

Must have been a righty who told you! 😉

                • Nicholas Browning

It was from a left handed person , lol
