Disconsolate Depths

Tune: Breslau

('Take up thy cross, the Saviour said')

Psalm 88 parts

********

1. Lord God, you my salvation are

Though seeming now you are afar

Yet day and night I to you cry

My soul feels as if it will die

2. From deep I call to you, bereft

all seems dark here, I am in fear

Hoping, praying, you have not left

O coem to me, to me draw near

3. I mourn, I weep, yet still a spark

Of confidence that you will hark

Will hear my troubles, tend my need

You still my Shepherd, will me feed

4. Fro shall death praise you, does grave know

How to your works and glories show?

But here the living praise your name

Recount your worthies and your fam

5. Afflicted I, ready to die

Make haste to help me, to me fly

Abandon me not, help me sure

Then I shall live for evermore

Good write, it is good to see some four part harmony music, my line is the bottom one, holding up the rest of the choir.

Thanks G/F. Ahh good then, without you it would have no base, and fall to bits! Bit of a pun there - base/bass!

Thanks STEVE ~ As CHRISTIANS we must be prepared to to suffer ridicule and persecution for Christ's and there still many in prison for their Christian Faith and openly testifying to their trust in he Crucified Christ. Your poem hints at the spiritual pain we sometimes experience that "Even when we are Suffering for Christ ~ God seems afar off" have you had that experience ? Thanks BRIAN

Thanks B. I don't expect I've had the experience as deeply as the Psalmist here. A commentary calls it 'the darkest Psalm of all' the 150.
