I don't count any sheep
to fall asleep,
Instead I count the hours
You've been gone,
Minutes and seconds
Sometimes too.
I keep a stop watch on my night stand,
So when I awake,
I'll know exactly
How long it has been,
Since you've laid beside me.
I want you to know
I still sleep with your words
elegantly hanging from my ears
with one vowel
Struggling to hang on
By a single thread
Of that letter E.
I don't count any sheep
to fall asleep
Instead I count how many
Times my heart beats
Since you've been gone,
Gasps and tears
sometimes too.
I keep your teeshirt on my bedside,
to remind myself that you were once
Very real to me,
So I don't forget
Our memories.
Because when the night
Crushes down on me,
I can't breathe,
I can't stand to be without you.
And I know your body
Is buried six feet deep,
But I can still feel your presence
Wrapping around me.
Every second of the day,
Every morning when I make
Your favorite breakfast.
And I know I'll never
Lay my eyes on your body again,
But I can't bring myself to erase your pictures
To erase you from my life.
To do so would be absolutely heartbreaking.
I know everyone says I'll find another,
But truthfully,
I know,
There is no other like you,
There is no other lover for me.
And I swear,
I can feel your arms
~wrapping around me~

Ohhh, no. This isn't from personal experience thankfully! I still have my dear hubby, but I do fear the day I lose him. I try not to think too hard about that but the mind does wander. Thank you for such a lovely comment however! I'm glad you liked it 🙂
Ohhhhhh Thanks ~ I thought it was a bit premature ! I sometimes write poems about problems and losses I may have to face in the future (I'm 33) ! I love that you cherish your memories and of course you have your BOYS who will remind you of your husband ~ whatever the future holds ! Yours BRIAN
