Too Long.

Fay Slimm.

Too Long.

Too long hangs rain in our valley.

Sky's cloudy face cracks to cry wet patterns
over sown ground
and growing seedlings face hazard.

Too long has water earth wronged.

Makes mud by changing each leaf to sponge
that sucks out green to
leave brown where verdance belongs.

Small lakes pool in hedgerow roses.

Tears of lime cascade from higher meadows,
sad rinsing brings whispers
of killing by drizzle's unwelcome cold.

Too long shudder of feathers droop.

While across far horizons a fox runs foodless,
drenched cubs look for sun
while flooded prey hunch in hen-coop.

Too long a chill makes harvest weep.

Thatched cottages drip in the village street,
trees bleed moss and weight
burdens dripping thick-coated sheep.

Swathed in unheeding lies each garden.

Knee-deep in undone tasks the farmyard,

idle days sprout as folk bide
time waiting for signs of drying to start.

To long hangs rain in our valley.

Had to come in from the garden - guess what - it was raining. Great poem.

An exquisite rendition of the old phrase; "Rain, rain, go away. Come again another day." We've had a similar wet summer here in south Alabama. Lovely, Fay!

Hope it stops raining! I agree that too much rain in one's life can do us much harm. I guess Mother Earth has her ways, though. Great job on this Fay!

I can listen to the rain and see your Valley. Beautiful images feels my mind. Soft and homely. Thanks for sharing

Thanks FAY ~ for a lovely Complimentary Picture & Poem. I have spent dry days in Cornwall but also many wet ones ! However "wet or dry" Cornwall is on of the most beautiful Counties in England ! I guess being a Peninsular ~ surrounded on all sides by water ~ accounts for your high precipitation. Essex is much drier but much duller ! Because you are the "Queen of Cornwall" I have dedicated today's Poem "Tristan & Isolde" to you ~ OK ~ Yours as ever ~ BRIAN.

Lately there were several poems with rain as subject matter. Yours definitely stands out! Great writing.
