A MERRY LUNCH
The company straggled in twos and threes
from under the canopy of the trees.
They went to the Inn with the horse painted green:
a creature in life that’s not often seen.
Soon they were seated and started to eat
gulping and belching, all most indiscrete
until it transpired their hunger was beaten
by drinkables drunk and the eatables eaten.
Replete with good drink and the best of good food
the hum of their voices in mirth then ensued
which annoyed the hovering bald headed waiters
who wished to divest of their collars and gaiters.
But soon by dint of patient perseverance
the waiters were able to begin table clearance
the company then, with their heads in a spin
and unquestionably drunk, departed the Inn.

Unique little tale of some merry men having some fun. Nice. Rhyme scheme is old fashioned, but it fits. Bravo.
I had in mind a sort of Pickwick scene of days gone by hence the structure - glad you liked it.
Michael, I like this poem. Reminds me so much of the get-togethers we had in Switzerland.
And, as my dad so aptly used to say:
You gave me food, you gave me drink, if you want to give me something more, bring money!
(That was when he was feeling no pain anymore!)
A wise Dad - thanks Fred - come to think of it no one brings me money !!
And a good time was had by all, including those who read these words.
Another wonderful abstract Michael.
I quite fancy a get-together like this myself sometime - Thanks Andy.
A fine write and pic, at one minute into the UK day!
And still not first to post - cheers Orchi
Ha - - after reading the lighthearted flow of this fun-ballad how I wish I had been a fly on the wall in that Ol' Green Horse Inn.
So do I - Dickens has a lot to answer for.
"Come Landlord fill the flowing bowl .................... ! Love the picture of ETON MESS ! The nature and behaviour of the Party reminded me of Old Etonians ! Tnanks BRIAN
I was looking for a title for this one - thanks Brian - Eton Mess it is
And a merry lunch it was! Certainly beats a burger at McDonalds. Enjoyed being there for it, Michael, made possible by this fine poem!
Most things beat a burger from McD - but there again I am not one to judge having never eaten there
I avoid their food , but love their coffee.
You had that lunch by now?! Ccooeeee M. lol. (put that sherry down, Orchi, dashing in here with mad comments!) lol.
Had lunch and painted a bay window surround on the front of the house (rubbed down, sugar soaped, undercoat, and first top coat - now knackered) and still time to call in from time to time and make stupid comments on a certain website - you are not alone O
Ahh good - from time to time...making stupid comments....lol. It's a wonder we get time for it. Otherwise we might say 'I should like to have the time for it!' lol.
Nice fun write Michael. Enjoyed reading.
Thanks M
Enjoyed this - the rhythm of the poem reflects the jovial scene you have created.
A jolly Ballad - a good fun write - thanks Sue
It's too late for today. I shall have such kind of lunch tomorrow.
I love this group of paint. This one and the one from yesterday.
Thanks - pleased you like my artwork - today's one was painted as a demonstration to an art group showing them how to use - guess what - a scrub bud to apply the paint. A bit Jackson Polllock - ish.
You artist can paint with everything, unbelievable.
