THE LETTER

Michael Edwards

THE LETTER

On plastered walls where shoulders lean

she leant

she cried.

By kindled fire that slowly warmed

her hand

still cold.

On oaken chair by ink stained desk

she sat

she thought.

And on the woven writing pad

she wrote

to him.

Michael, you have the gift to bring a scene to life with only a few words. I can see that woman, I can see the room, and I can feel the hurt and the hope.

    • Michael Edwards

Thanks Fred - I was quite smugly pleased with this little write.

You should be more than pleased, you should be ecstatic. And I am really serious here, no kidding this time!

          Thank you Andy

Picture = Dendritic Forest ( an experimental piece).

            The experiment worked.

A fine write and pic again M. Did it take her 14 minutes into the day to write the letter, then you wrote this poem?! heehee.

Woke up early so posted it late to make up for it. Seriously though I didn't realise I'd posted an earlier version and not the finalised version so had to edit it a bit - s**t happens as they say. Who are they?

              • orchidee

It's the unknown 'they', of 'them' and 'us'. Well, stand back - in case any of it hits the fan, as they also say!

Thanks MICHAEL ~ Love the 822 format ~ the cadence in the longer line (8) adds power & poignancy to abruptness of the 2 x 2 lines. Again this form underlines the importance of basing rhythm on syllabus count ! "The moving hand doth write .......! " is always an excellent theme for an excellent Poem. Love dendritic painting and (as your title suggests) it always branches out ! Yours BRIAN Please visit my Pyramid ~ Thanks B.

Thanks for the encouragement Brian - I was pleased it works as well as it does.

An enchanting piece, nicely presented visually. Who could ask for more? This one nails it, Michael!

Wow! Michael, this is awesome. You surpassed yourself with this one. And the painting is so beautiful. I love it 😍

Thank you so much - it started out a simple idea and took on shape as it developed - certainly one I enjoyed immensely in the writing.

This feels like mindfulness. My imagination savoured each new item as you created them. I was left wondering the letters content. Truly excellent, enthralling and entertaining.

Your kind words are so encouraging - thank you.
