The Lone Tree.

Goldfinch60

I look up the hill

And see it,

That lone tree,

With no leaves for company.

Just the boughs

Reaching up

As if searching,

Searching for life.

Reaching out,

Reaching for existence.

I sit by it and listen,

Listen for its story,

But all I hear

Is silence.

I wonder

Why so alone?

Why so naked?

Is its life so unhappy

That all it waits for

Is its end?

The thought comes to me

That unlike this tree

My life towards my end

Will be filled with hope,

Filled with love,

As My Spirit goes on.

The thought then comes

That My Spirit

Will be joined

With the Spirit

Of the tree,

That not so lone tree.

Them trees have been around longer than we've lived so far. Well, maybe not as long as us two. Did you recognise that tree? Was it around in 1066? heehee. A fine write.
If the tree had feelings, I would want to bring it indoors of a chilly night!

And not a partridge in sight - were there partridges in 1066 ?

      • Goldfinch60

Thanks Orchi. It was just a sapling in 1066. I had to get Michael to paint it then, but my photograph shows it in its maturity.
        All life has feelings.

        • orchidee

Was it a pear tree - partridge? And is it among the records of the world's oldest trees?

          • Michael Edwards

            Wasn't a pear tree - it's all alone. Perhaps that's why there's no partridge.

Actually has anyone ever seen a partridge in a pear tree?

            • orchidee

Yes - if I've had too many sherries. Saw one! lol.

            • Michael Edwards

This is a great piece Andy and quite inspirational.

              • Goldfinch60

                Thank you Michael.

You write so well, Goldfinch. And trees are so interesting!

                • Goldfinch60

                  Thank you Fred.
Yes trees are very interesting, whenever I go out with my camera I invariably photograph trees of parts of trees, That picture is one of mine.

And there is your other career! You are not only a good writer, but a good photographer as well!

Thanks ANDY ~ but remember just like us each tree has it moments of AUTUMN GLORY as well as it's WINTER bleakness ! I have learned that "Whatever Season of Life or Love I'm in therewith to be CONTENT" Yours BRIAN. Please check my Tribute to SANTITA ~ Thanks B.

Thank Brian, what you say is true but that applies to all life.

Brilliant concept between two lives, yours and the tree. I love it Goldfinch. ; )

Thank you AP, lives should combine in natures world.

To me, nothing conveys wisdom like an old tree. Well portrayed herein, Goldie!

                        • Goldfinch60

Very true Louis, I would like to hear what they know and have seen.

I really do like your poem. As a believer in reincarnation i wonder whether we are ever re-created as a tree. What wisdom would we learn from such existence? A thought to play with perhaps. But they are such noble things and we do take them for granted as have generations before us with that very same tree. Very thought provoking and beautiful writing sir!

                          • Goldfinch60

Thank you da. There is no reason why we should be or have been a tree. My belief is that My Spirit runs through my earthly life and that earthly life is but a blink of an eye. I have no reason to disbelieve that at some point My Spirit will be within a tree or any other glory of nature.

                            • dusk arising

Very reassuring to know there is another poetic kindred spirit here in worcestershire sir.

It is beautiful to see that you came to this realization. It is wisdom talking to you. Thanks for sharing.

The lone tree and silence; how the world could use a little silence to contemplate God's glory as your lone tree prompts your reader. Indeed our lives have an end in mind - unlike the lone tree's. Great write.

                                  • Goldfinch60

                                    Thank you so much Gary.
