The pieces lay before you,
Scattered all around.
How can sense be made of it?
Suddenly you see two pieces,
Two pieces that look alike.
You try to fit them together,
It works,
It is a start,
The future seems endless.
Ever so slowly pieces come together
Until that time you have a frame,
That frame needs to be filled.
In time more pieces come together
Until a picture starts to become visible.
Some pieces fit so easily to bring happiness,
Others are a struggle to put together
And sadness and rancour come over you.
At last you can see it,
You can see a goal,
Somewhere to aim.
As each piece is found
Life becomes clearer,
Until that time when the end is in sight,
And as the last piece of the jigsaw is placed
Your life is complete,
And moves on to that infinite jigsaw,
That is Your Spirit.

- Comment from author about the poem: I bought a jigsaw puzzle for my wife hoping it might help her in coming to terms with her dementia - it does keep her more occupied some of the more meaningless things that she gets involved in. These words came to mind.

Good write G/F. I got problems with a 'jigsaw' of sorting out these sherries in me cellar! So many of them.
Sherries in the cellar? - well let her out for goodness sake.
So well written but such sadness behind the lines.
Thank you Michael, very true.
Excellent poem of the puzzle of life. Sadly, sometimes there's a missing piece that can't be found. Thanks for sharing Goldfinch. My adoptive mother passed from Alzheimer's Disease . Hugs for your wife.
Thank you AP, so very true.
Thank you for your kind thoughts.
The JIGSAW of LIFE a very evocative phrase ! We haven't forgotten that your beloved WIFE has Alzheimer's and pray for Patience for You and understanding for your Lady Wife. Unlike many in the 30 ~ 40 Age Group I love JIGGIES and find them very relaxing ! My GF (29) and I do the outline first and then complete ~ reliant on the Big Picture and the colour and shape of the individual pieces. Angela is good on Skies and Meadows and Water ~ I like lots of detail so we are a Good Team. Please check the new B & S Fusion on Drink ~ Yours BRIAN,
Thank you Brian, much appreciated.
Thoughtful piece yes life is a jigsaw.... the sadness underlying this poem is moving....
Thank you WL, you are most kind.
This just isn't fair..... why do my jigsaws have bits missing. You've done it again. Good writing sir!
Thank you da, if you have a piece missing from your puzzle it has probably dropped on the floor, that is where some of mine end up, and they just need a more conscious effort to find them.
I wish I would shut up - Sherry, come out of that cellar now! heehee.
Wow! What a perspective on life. The sadness does not obscure the positives though, IMHO. Great write!
Thank you Seek, your comments are much appreciated.
A beautiful piece illustrating an eternal conflict we all have, keep it up Gold!
Thank you pb5454, I will continue as it is my lifeline.
Such a good and inspired piece of advice my friend.
Thank you Fay.
Using a jigsaw puzzle as a metaphor for life is genius! Great writing, Goldfinch.
Thank you Fred you are so kind.
Life just like Jigsaw puzzles, you need to find the right piece and put it at the right place. some are easy, some are taken a long time to figure out.
Nice poem. Your love is the best piece in your wife's puzzle.
Thank you m and m. The jigsaw of life is normally completed in our lives.
Yes love is the most important piece.
