I want to laugh at
My own stupidity
But only manage
A grin
I want to cry about
My own stupidity
But there are
No tears
I want to embrace
My own stupidity
But my arms are
Too short
I want to forget
My own stupidity
But my mind will not
Let me
I need to accept
My own stupidity
And see it as
A gift
The gift to see myself
The way I really am
Neither good nor bad
Just human

We all need to accept the way we are and move forward. If people have problems with you, or me, remember it is their problem, not yours, or mine. Good write Fred.
Thank you Goldfinch! We really do need to accept ourselves, but then should also be open to change.
The best piece of advice I ever received was from my Dad. He told me to always walk with shoulders back and be proud of who I am. This was instilled into me and to this day I have followed this advice which has given me confidence throughout my life. I have many weaknesses as we all do but Dads advice has always helped me to cope with life. This was Dads gift.
Thanks Michael, and what a great gift! My dad gave me two pieces of advice: 1. It is better to be rich and healthy, than poor and sick
2. If you want to make real money, start your own church
He was quite the joker!
Good luck with that aim, Fred. Best way is to examine it in the form of your own writing. Bravo.
Thanks Frank, you are so right!
Now I protest! Some are called humans under false pretences. I mean, who is human in 'Neighbours'? For USA, think of your most ghastliest soap show instead! heehee.
A fine write Fred.
Thank you orchidee. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I do NOT watch any soaps. Well ok, maybe once in a blue moon a Korean soap, because they are so funny. All they do is cry and eat.
Good read and helpful to many who find it hard to accept Self - yes being human is the wisest course to take Fred .
Thank you Fay! No matter how we look at ourselves, we are human, with all the foibles, advantages, and disadvantages.
Thanks FRED I am a student of ROBBIE BURNS and your elegant poem echoes a stanza in TO A LOUSE (1786)
Wad some Power the giftie gie us
To see oursels as ithers see us !
It wad frae mony a blunder free us
An' foolish notion
What airs in dress an' gait wad lea'e us
An' ev'n devotion !
Poetically speaking BURNS is in a class of his own
Thanks for your sentiments very challenging ~ Yours BRIAN
Thanks so much Brian! That one of my scribbles should remind you of a poet such as Robbie Burns I have to take as a compliment! Mahalo!
Fred Great poem loved how you wanted to embrace your stupidity but your arms are too short , fine writing with humor
Thanks WL. Saw a bumper sticker once that said: Life is too short to drink cheap beer. Don't know if this fits here, but wanted to say it anyway!
"I want to embrace
My own stupidity
But my arms are
Too short"
I could help you to stretch them longer if you like. 🙂
Their is nothing wrong with stupidity, that is how we were created, as least I was created that way.
Love it.
Thank you so much, M&M, for your kind offer! But I think I am perfectly fine without you putting me on the rack! I also think that stupidity is the creator's way to show us who is in charge. You know the definition of 'experience' is recognizing a stupid thing the second time you do it!
I don't see you as stupid but I do see you as human. We are all flawed, we just have hopes the good weighs more than the bad. Great piece.
Thanks, lasergraph, and truthfully, I do not consider myself stupid either, but I did and probably will keep on doing stupid things every so often. Thanks for reading and commenting!
This is awesome Fred. Clever writing and clever thinking.
Thank you Malu! Even a blind man will find a gem if he looks long enough!
Walk tall, walk straight and look the world right in the eye... words from an old song. .
A nice bit of running yourself down writing. Can't believe these thoughts could be applied to you my friend though. Brilliantly provocative.
Thanks da! I think these thoughts apply to all of us to one degree or another. But some don't know it yet! 😉
