I saw a picture of him today
and was reminded of all the bad.
The terrible memories of him growing up.
As a child I never stopped to question my dad.
But I always sought his validation
even without consciously knowing it.
I hated what he was and what he did
As I got older I couldn't even tell if he was lit.
Now not wanting to know his grandchildren
Is what really crosses the line.
His abuse and alcoholism wasn't enough?
Now I see the man doesn't have a spine.
Better off without him any way you slice it.
I used to be jealous of girls with normal dads.
He still prefers the bottle over us "kids"
But we've all had to let go of him--so sad!

Thanks CHRIS it makes me so so sad because if ever I have a Daughter ~ I want her to be just like you ~ You are lovely ! It is hard for me to comprehend because My Parents are the loveliest and most caring People I know. It must have been hard for you to write this ~ I pray you found it cathartic ! Cathartic Cuddles from BRIAN "Your Best Friend". Please check KIM 2. ~ Specially for YOU !
What was hard to do was leave out the nasty things I could've said, but it's just not worth it. Now that poem got it out of my system for a while! You are so lucky to have 2 parents who love you!! You'll be a great dad someday! And i thought Kim 2 was adorable. Bestie Hugs-Christina
Sad poem beautifully written - long distance hug from me too.
Thank you Michael for the compliment--long distance hug back! Thanks again!
Such a sad write, Dads should always be there for their children.
Yes, dads should be there for their kids and grandkids but for some, addiction is more powerful than parental instinct. Thanks for the kind words.
I done a piece call my roots
I see we come from the same
But at least we are making the change
Thank you for sharing and showing we are not alone in this feeling inside.
No, a lot of us on MPS come from a similar background. Thanks for the encouraging words!
I would like to thank you for helping me find my words yesterday for my post today. Hope you have a wonderful day

Yes, but in the end I hope I've become the best parent I can be. Thanks so much for your kind words, WL. They are appreciated!
incredible.. just incredible.. you brought back emotions long since thought about with this one. Very well done.
Thank you! I hope I didn't evoke too much emotion. But I appreciate your kind words!
You were perfect.. it was perfect.. Thank you for sharing
I can fully understand your anger, hope one day you could find the strength to forgive him if only you could understand his struggle and pain. Today I happen to read a quote from a famous English writer, Samuel Johnson, ""He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man."
Love.
Thank you so much m&m for your insight. I was able to forgive him this past December so I could get past the hurt. I wrote about it. That is an awesome quote by the way!!!
Thanks again for your kind words of wisdom!
Sad poem Christina, but you know that although it is sad, you have your dignity and your children intact. Be blessed. Excellent poem!
