HE'LL BE A POLITICIAN YET

Michael Edwards

HE’LL BE A POLITICIAN YET

With flowing scarf and green rosette

he stood upon the parapet

above the stir with strident lure

he saw where wealth did not endure

amongst the mass of human welter

there his eye across the spectra

scanned the view unfurled below

and from each roof and portico

the fluttering flags of white and green

framed the heaving unkempt scene

where shabby idlers stood and heard

his every slogan, every word.

With flowing scarf and green rosette

he’ll be a politician yet.

"How do you know when a politician's lying?"
    "Their lips move!"

A fine write. I thought he may be in a pet show, with those rosettes that are awarded!

Very well written, Michael, and I do like the subject matter, a subject that is not written about too often (maybe with the exception of Outback). He'll be a politician yet, and doesn't sound like a villain yet!

    • Michael Edwards

Outback will make a superb politician - I can never understand him but I love what he says - bless him.

LONG LIVE THE GREEN PARTY ~ THE ONLY PARTY WORTH VOTING FOR ! My expriences with MPS has always been positive ~ they do work hard (building DUCK ISLANDS !) and always answer my letters and takle injustices ! I have dined at the HOP several times and watched OBAMA'S Inaugurarion Speech in the Members TV Room with Tony Benn etc etc. In my book the majority are Honorable Gentlemen & Ladies and deserve our support in and out of the House. Thanks for sharing ~ BRIAN Please check Venuus ~ Mars ~ Sun & Moon ~ Thanks ~ C & B

When I wrote this I had in mind an era long before the Green Party ever existed - I had in mind a pompous candidate looking down in the impoverished citizens of yesteryear - but agree the Green party is high up on my list of potentials although I do not always agree with some of their non-green policies. Thanks Brian.

A very fine write! I don't know much about the green party in the UK but I did see goldfinchs comment and agree! Seriously, well worded poem.

Thanks Christina - it was never intended to reflect the Green Party - it was just a colour I plucked out of the air - whatever colour I chose would have reflected on one party or another (black, red blue) unless I chose a colour like violet but then the meter goes to pot ..... Actually white might work I\'ll change it.

This poem brought back a memory from a time, late sixties I believe, when on a visit to Madrid I watched Francisco Franco address a large crowd from the steps of a building. They were cheering; "Franco, Franco!". He was a politician, indeed!
Your poem captures a politician's nature well, Michael.

A military dictator and a monarchist - I guess his was the sort of pomposity and arrogance I was loosely attempting to portray. Thanks Louis.

Nicely captured could be a politician nearly anywhere in any time....

            • Michael Edwards

Could be yes - I'm sure that most start out with good intentions but then.....!

I wish things would change in politics. The way it is now make me wants to turn off the tv. Or better. Retire it for good. Nice write Michael. A sore subject for sure.

A sore subject and ever was it thus, Thanks Malu

Love the way you describe politician. Deep to the root.
