Being born in the ‘50s
Music was always my friend
It just felt right
A lifelong trend
With Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry
Early legends of Rock & Roll
But now we’ve lost Buddy and Chuck
Sadly we gotta pay the toll
Through the ‘60s and ‘70s
My favorite music years
The British Invasion
And Rock & Roll in my ears
From The Beatles
And The Moody Blues
Buying record albums
I’ve paid my dues
The Beach Boys
With all those great car songs
Give the volume knob a twist
Crank it up all night long
Songs that pick you up
And carry you through mid-air
Well, not really
But with eyes closed you’re there
Sensational guitar pickin’
And song lyrics you’d join in
Go ahead, sing along and pretend
You’re a rock star singing
“The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly”
An instrumental so cool
And “Classical Gas”
How Mason Williams rules
From the band Chicago
“25 or 6 to 4”
Somebody pinch me
I’m like a kid in the record store
Got my toes and fingers tappin’
To the beat of Rock & Roll
Groovin’ to the music of life
The music that moves my soul

Good write AP. You'll move your soul, and body, out of any room where music accompanies my singing! heehee.
Ok, take my money, my credit cards, my truck, anything, just please don't sing. ; )
I grew up with music too! Different era but music is so therapeutic! Very good write on the subject! You bought record albums, now everyone can download songs. Nothing like just having the oldies on backup, huh?
Thanks for reading Christina. Yes, growing up in the 60s was a wonderful time for a kid my age. There were some very difficult events going on too. But when young like I was then, its tough to know what to make of it all. The music is what pulled me through those years. And I do have quite a record collection. Almost all the Beatles albums. One in particular, The White Album is somewhat rae as it has a spelling mistake of one of the songs. Now I also have a lot of CDs too. ; )
Cool poem a little insight on the music you love , good stuff
Yeah it was a great time to be growing up with the music and the cars. There were others who partied harder than me, but I always had good times. Thanks for reading and commenting WL. ; )
Good write, you took me back to those wonderful years. I have a vast collection of music collected over my nearly 70 years, a couple oh months ago I put in some Buddy Holly and I could still sing all the words with him.
It was a great time Goldie. I don't remember the deaths of Buddy Holly and James Dean, but I've always idolized them. And now it seems like every month or two we loose another legend that I grew up with. Like The Righteous Brothers song, "Rock & Roll Heaven" says, Heaven must have a heck of a band now. Thanks for reading and commenting Goldie, always appreciate it. ; )
That band will be wonderful but the pleasure for me is that when I am listening to it my father will be sitting next to me, he introduced me to so many types of music.
And THAT is worthy of a write! I'll be patiently waiting for that one. ; )
I have written any poems about my father, I will pit one on today.
You didn't waste any time on that entry. I loved it. Love reading about the relationship you have with your dad. ; )
AP, you speak from my heart! Sometimes listen to the golden oldies all day long while working on the computer. Great poem!
I'm like you Fred, could listen to the music of the late 50s through the early 70s all day and night. Thanks for reading Fred. ; )
