Calliope.

Goldfinch60

I sit at my desk,

The blank sheet before me.

I look up and see her,

See this lady

Who has come into my life,

Of whom I have just became aware.

She has been there forever,

Guiding my thoughts onto paper.

I have been aware of somebody,

Somebody who guides my hand,

As the words flow into my mind,

Through my pen,

Onto the page.

As I walk down the street,

Sit in the park,

Walk with nature,

She is always at my side,

Prompting me with words,

Prompting me with ideas,

That can be put into words.

I can now call her by name,

As I know that my life

Would be unfulfilled,

If it was not for my muse,

Calliope.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Calliope is the muse who presides over eloquence and epic poetry; so called from the ecstatic harmony of her voice. Today in the UK it is National Poetry Day so I believe it is only fitting that a poem about the muse of poetry should be presented. I have recently framed and put this picture on the wall in the room where I write my poetry, I just need to look up and she is looking over me.

I loved to read this. Went to my faves. Love the picture too. I wish we have a poetry day here in US or in Brazil. I only have one friend poet apart from this site. She only writes in Portuguese but she writes nice. We share some things sometimes.

                      • Goldfinch60

Thank you Malu, so kind. Poetry is gradually becoming more popular in the UK apparently.

Is this the lady who gave you first the confidence to write and then the insight you possess perhaps the angel who you slowly became aware of watching over you and your life, radiating love and reassurance - the basis of your faith?

                        • Goldfinch60

I don't know why she came into my life but she wasn't the lady who inspired me to start writing, that was lino cut print that our daughter did back in 2008, when I saw the first print with only one of the colours on it I burst into tears and from that I wrote a poem called "Is There No Hope" which you will find on this site together with a picture of the print.
My Faith is more scientific, I started out as an analytical chemist so I have a scientific background. As to Faith I believe in the Big Bang Theory as they are now proving that it did happen but my belief is that the Big Bang was caused by a force and that force I call God. I follow the Christian way as they talk about the Holy Spirit and that is my Force, My God.
