Looking back you see your childhood,
Those times when the fun of life
Was always with you,
Laughter never far away.
With age comes more responsibilities,
And the fun that you had becomes harder.
As life goes on fun decreases,
Until it seems to become a rarity.
What you need to realise though
Is that you don’t stop having fun
Because you’re are getting old,
You are getting old,
Because you stopped having fun.

ah, growing into the elderly. we all fall prey to the unpleasantness which age supplies endings in human demise. the age just before time arrives where we sit back and enjoy reflecting back on the things we did and achieved then the inevitable happens. I love this poem because it brings so much thought for when we need the care and support from our loved ones to make things as comfortable as we can.
Very true Kevin, we all need and need to give support.
Luckily with my odd sense of humour I see fun in most things (often very non PC) which can be a tad embarrassing at times - especially since I'm a born giggler which doesn't always go down well at my age !! But do I care? Do I heck!! Great write Andy.
I feel much the same Michael, I too have an odd sense of humour. Thanks Michael.
GOOD MORNING ANDY ~ To those of us still in our THIRTIES your closing Doublet is salutary indeed. I still find an element of fun in everything but I do notice that my Colleagues who are old (40+) have become a little more dour and some have even ceased to send a riposte to the "oft circulated" daily email funnies ! C'est la vie ~ BRIAN.
Age is just a number, I am 69 this week so to you I must be ancient, but I can find fun in all types of ways. Thanks for the comment
"Knock knock"
"Who's there?!
"Knock"
"Knock who?"
"Knock knock!"
Right on, Goldfinch! The last two lines say it all!
It is a little hard sometimes though, what with pushing that damned walker!
Those walkers only get in the way, with one of them in front of you it is hard to reach the bar for your drink.
Thanks Fred.
Thanks Goldfinch. I try to make having fun an important part of my life.
It is so important in our lives, enjoy it.
True Goldie, we do sometimes forget to have fun in life. The days of our youth were a glorious time, and with maturity comes more and more responsibility. Sadly, some people think that having fun is being irresponsible. A great write Goldie, now go out and have some fun. ; )
We had more fun in our youth but I believe the fun we have in old age is more meaningful.
A man of wisdom you are Goldie. ; )
Boo hoo! So anyone over 40 is old?! Arrgghh. That's not even past middle-age. A fine write Gold.
Thanks Orchi. Age should be no problem to us, or have you forgotten our pet dinosaurs.
For us, old age is over 4 million years old!
However true your words are Goldfinch, I still try to have fun! Not the type we had as children (which was far more fun), but as adults, the fun just isn't the same no matter how you try. Beautiful write Goldfinch!!!
Thank you Edward. Yes fun is so important.
Never too old to have fun , at least a chuckle or two , good poem
Very true, fun can be had in all walks of life.
I guess I was born old. Nice poem, Goldie!
Thanks Louis, you are only as old as you feel.
words of wisdom my friend,no doubt
Thank you Ron, most kind.
what a wise statement at the end! Never stop having fun and never stop laughing! Thanks for sharing this wonderful poem, GF!
Thank you Christina, fun should always be in our lives.
Would you like a little irony with your Wheaties this morning. Loved the last two lines.
Great write,
Mugsdaddy
Thank you M, irony is always good to have but I have muesli with it.
