Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is
a thing people had coming back from war
But they used to call it "shell shock"--
not the kind of thing a child should endure.
I'm jumpy as hell and quick to frighten
Memories come at me in my dreams
Disoriented upon waking-this I'm
not faking-I've had a nightmare it seems
It's hard to measure whose is worse,
yours or mine, so hard to tell
I cry at others pain especially if
they've been through battle, that's hard as hell
I'll take my memories anyday
before I can watch a grown man cry
PTSD is a lifelong sentence
which is why the suicide rate is so high

- Comment from author about the poem: Many people like me got PTSD as a child and/or teenager. Others get it from war/armed forces as discussed. On average, 22 veterans kill themselves everyday, which is why PTSD is serious.

Thanks for sharing SISTER CHIS ~ I'll try not to make you JUMP ~ BUT ~ I will try and make you JUMP FOR JOY ! Hugs & Cuddles ~ BROTHER BRIAN @@@@@@@
Thanks Brian! Appreciate the feedback---Sisterly Hugs--Christina
It is such an awful disease and is hard to cure, all we can do is to support those who gave it, including you Christina. Keep strong, keep calm.
I appreciate your support GF! Thanks for reading.
Thanks for your write, PTSD is indeed serious. Like many diseases we don't know nearly enough about it. We send people off to war and expect them to come back whole.
Thanks laser for your support on this. But a lot of children from abuse get this too.I really appreciate your feedback!
Yes they do. Our tragedies seem to linger long. Human spirit is strong but can be broken.
Indeed. Thank you again.
A thoughtful and sensitive write Christina.
Thanks so much orchidee for your support!
Indeed, PTSD is so serious a disease. Thank you for sharing. Nicely done.
Thanks so much rrodriguez for reading and for your support. Appreciated!
Very well done. I have PTSD from childhood, and it's nowhere near what some is, but it is difficult sometimes. You have a beautiful heart to write about something so dark, and you did it very well.
Thank you for sharing.
It was a hard thing to write about but maybe others who have it will read and know they are not alone. Thanks for your kind words and reading! Appreciate it!
Such a tragic disease is that called theses days as PTSD when from childhood some experience just what the verse states - - pity the lifetime ahead for such ones - sending you hugs dear Christina for sharing this awful experience..
Thanks for the hugs and your wonderful reply! Most appreciated!
As a fellow sufferer of PTSD from childhood abuse, I appreciate you spotlighting this often misunderstood condition, and the fact that it isn't just a result of war experiences. Well done, Christina!
I wrote it to bring awareness to it, though difficult to do. I'm really glad that it reached you the way it did. Thanks for the read and the compliment!
Thanks for your courage!
Right back at ya!
Up until I read this incredibly strong and well written poem of yours about PTSD, I did not even know that children can also be affected. Thought it was strictly war related. Thank you so much for writing about it and opening my eyes.
That means a lot to me Fred. Yes, millions are affected, not just war veterans. I thank you so much for your read and your kind reply!
Thank you for bringing this lesser understood area of ptsd into the light. We are often mocked for its mention for we never went to war and saw our loved ones torn to pieces which must be a terrible experience. It is difficult for most to associate childhood abuse with wartime ptsd.
Thank you so much dusk arising for your thoughtful insight on this subject. It is terrible that many of us got it as children and have endured through it as adults. I appreciate your wonderful positive feedback!!
i live with it every day,,but i don`t have dreams,i really see them coming after me..i even know the hair color
so,i can feel you
I am so sorry you have this too. I tried to bring awareness to it with my poem. Thanks for your thoughtful insight!
my pleasure
Wow Christina. Now you made me think. My ex husband has so much of those traumas but I did not know it could be from child abuse. I don't know exactly what is considered abuse but he suffered so much because his father left his mother with 9 kids when he was only 8 years old and his mother went insane and would not take care of them. Was a mess. Do you think it is considered child abuse? I really don't know much about the subject.
Well, I am no doctor but he may have flashbacks of a kind of not being fed or taken care of. Trauma in my understanding is most often being physically beaten or worse but not taking care of them is a form of abuse, not sure if it's PTSD. I'd look into it. Thanks for reading.
Christina, sorry to use your poem to ask you a long question. Thanks for writing about this. I need to recearch more about.
Yes, I'd look into it. Thanks malu!
Dreadful dreadful problem and your poem is just right in the way it draws attention to it.
Yes, I didn't realize how many others had it from childhood but it definitely is a problem. Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it!!
Nor did I - your super work brought it home to me.
