Flashbacks

Quite often I get flashbacks

Of my younger days

How I used to be so shy

Till I grew into bolder ways

When Carl Yastrzemski swung his bat

And Bobby Orr scored that winning goal

Crusin’ all night

To that good ole Rock & Roll

What happened to the party boy

That I used to be

And where did the years go

Leaving me with grey hairs I see

My days now, all about work

Tedious and routine

Nightime I lay low

At home quiet and serene

It used to be

My Friday and Saturday nights

I’d go through a full tank of gas

Rockin’ and Rollin’ till early morning light

Now Friday and Saturday

I’m in bed by 10 P.M.

Too pooped to pop

Not the firecracker I was back then

Aah, but I love those flashbacks

Glimpses of back in the day

When I was foot loose and fancy free

Not caring if my long hair got in the way

Yes, my younger days

Are my comfort zone

And crusin’ is still my pastime

Even if I don’t leave my home

Those were the days my friend - we thought they'd never end - ( remember Sandy Shore singing that one ? ) - a great piece of nostalgia A.P.

      • Accidental Poet

Fay, on this side of the pond it was Mary Hopkins who sang that tune. But yes, I remember it well. Thanks for reading and reminiscing with me Fay.

            Yes, the good old days...
            The years have rushed by...
we can still sing and dance
and think of all things we’ve done!
Let’s hope we can keep on crusin’...slower perhaps...
            but why not!!!
Enjoyed the write and the video, AP!

                    • Accidental Poet

Thanks sky. Thought I'd get away from the couple of non-positive writes I did by getting nostalgic again.

Where was I in 62? Playing electric guitar in my friends garage, dreaming of becoming a rock star. Staring wonderingly at girls chests, souping up my moped, too young to drive a car, at least officially! 🙂
Your great poem did take me back to these carefree times. THANK YOU! Couldn't help it, had to make it a fav!

                      • Accidental Poet

Thank you so much Fred. I too enjoyed your memories of younger days. In '62 I was 6 years old, so you have a couple years on me. But not much, I'm right on your heels. So you had a high performance moped eh? Bet you really hauled the mail on that. ; )

                        • FredPeyer

AP, the moped had a 50cc German Sachs engine with a limiter in-between the carburetor and the engine restricting the flow of fuel mixture and thereby limiting the top speed. Remove that limiter and you are home free! We were doing upwards of 45 miles/hour with something resembling more a bicycle than a real moped. Thinking about it now, I am surprised none of us died.

                          • Accidental Poet

Well, thankfully none of you did die. Your poetic talents would certainly be missed here.
