Body Clock.

Goldfinch60

I cannot remember not getting up at that time,

The same time every morning.

My body clock is rarely late,

So why do they change the time,

Change the time in the world

In which I live.

It is alright they say,

You will gain an hour

When the clocks go back.

How can I gain an hour?

I am up at five now

Not six o’clock!

My body clock is right!

Why do I have to convene

With the man made,

Or man destroyed,

Passage of time?

  • Comment from author about the poem: In the UK the clocks get changed twice a year, in the Spring they go forward and hour and in the autumn they go back an hour. When they go back people go on about gaining an hour but my body clock never changes so now I am up about 5am according to the new time instead of my normal 6am. I still go to bed at my normal time, by the clock, but I am in face losing an hours sleep! OK rant over.

When God created Planet Earth as a suitable habitat for Homo Sapiens Sapiens ~ He also provided Times & Seasons ~ Day & Night and Spring ~ Summer ~ Autumn ~ Winter. Man introduced the division of Day & Night into 24 hours and each hour into 60 minutes and each minute in 60 seconds ~ very non-metric ! This was to enable us to time Football Matches etc and to time records for the Olympic Games. Springing forward an hour in the Spring ~ technically makes it lighter for kds going to School in the morning ~ so we have to Fall back an hour in the Fall (AUTUMN) to balance the books. For the Ancients who still rise and fall according to the Sun 6 am (up with t'Sun to milk our cows) is now 5 am ~ OK However if you've adjusted your TEASMADE (we know you've got one !) to BST then you will have to smoulder in the PIT for an extra hour. Another example of trying to alter God's plan and reaping a whirlwind ~ AMEN ~ BRIAN

You picked the perfect picture to go with your poem! Ours happens sunday as I guess people have already said. But our internal time clock, our circadian rhythm, never changes! Great write!!

      • Goldfinch60

Thank you Christina, that picture has always been a favourite of mine.

Time ... a fluid and fabricated construct of this world. Well expressed here, Goldie!
I love the Salvador Dali art piece on Time. One of my favorites of his.

        • Goldfinch60

Thank you Louis. I too like Salvador Dali's work.

What's all the fuss? lol. We had only 23 hours one day in March. Now we've just had a 25 hour day to have the hour back!

              • Goldfinch60

My body clock doesn't feel like that.

Here is the solution, Goldfinch: Move to Hawaii. We do NOT change the time. On the other hand, we always have to keep in mind the changing time differences with places where they DO change the time.
I really like your poem! As Einstein said, time is relative! 🙂

Timeless ! simply timeless... or... hang on, do i mean less time?

erm.... never mind... i'm going back to bed, i never get enough sleep no matter what the clocks say.

                    Sleep perchance to dream
                    To dream of jazz
                    To dream of that saxophone
                    Filling our minds with joy
                    As its notes flow
                    Flow with us to eternity.

To me, the big winner of changing time is the paper manufacture. Can you imagine all the schedule should be re-printed now.

                    • Goldfinch60

Probably very true back in the day but in these days of electronics and computing it all gets changes for us.

I grew up in Arizona so I never had to deal with the time change until I joined the Navy... Thirty years later, I still think it's stupid.

I agree Mugs, it is stupid, obviously somebody in power is making money out of it - or is that me being cynical once more.
