The Land Of The Free

Christina8

Still searching for answers about Sundays questions

Why did so many young and old have to die?

We'll ponder this for quite some time

But some will look to the heavens asking why

After Las Vegas we felt less safe, and now this

I don't want to see the killers face or know his name

Where in america is it really safe for us to go?

It's sad his family has to deal with his shame

It's only been days since the NYC attack and yet

far away in a small town this massacre happened too

He went into a church and began hunting, just

gunning down our brothers and sisters like me and you

Like a glimmer of hope, a good samaritan put

his life on the line to stop this shooting spree

I hope this we can heal together and pray together

In this wonderful country-The Land Of The Free

  • Comment from author about the poem: When will the shootings stop?! . I would like to advocate for less assault type weapons but thank goodness for the man who stopped the shooter in this case. America needs prayers but it also needs action. There are gofundme.com pages set up for the funerals of the victims.

Just awful and here in the UK we are still totally perplexed by the gun debate. A great write about a dreadful event.

    • Christina8

Thank you. We are just as perplexed!! I appreciate the read and reply!

      • Michael Edwards

Deaths by gun in the UK are 30 times lower per capita than in the US but then here in the UK guns are strictly regulated and even our police don't routinely carry them .

      • Goldfinch60

Very good write. As Michael has said the gun debate in the US is perplexing, and for Donald Trump to say it wasn’t caused by guns is ludicrous, he didn’t use a pea shooter for goodness sake,

        • Christina8

Exactly, but as soon as I say that someone will say I'm politicizing it too soon, I thought. Thanks so much for your comment! I appreciate it!

        • BRIAN & ANGELA

Thanks Brian! I appreciate your empathy, not as a texan but as an american. Sisterly hugs, Christina

Very heart felt write. It's very sad, but well written. You did a great job with this one.

            • Christina8

I appreciate the compliment very much SM! A very sad topic to be sure...

            • myself and me

Let's hope and pray for a free land again. Nice writing.

              • Christina8

Thanks for your wonderful comment! It will take a lot of time and leadership to get back to "normal". Thanks again.

I am glad you wrote about this. The more we condemn, the more questions we ask, the better. Don't let the gun-control debate die, and don't let the other side win! While it is true that people kill people, if they would not have the means, they wouldn't do it!

                • Christina8

I completely agree, Fred! I just think that assault type weapons are something that don't need to be in the hands of everyday people. You can have a shotgun for hunting, maybe a pistol for protection? Who needs that many guns?? Thanks for a great reply!

Such a powerful and appealing write on the terrible tragedy of wild use of guns in the USA - -hope the debate to control them comes soon . A moving read Christina.

                  • Christina8

I also think we need long due debates! Thanks for reading and the heartfelt reply! Appreciated as always--Christina

                  • skyebellasario

Such a powerful write Christina! I agree with Michael, here in the UK the gun laws completely baffle us. I really hope this gets under control before any more tragedies happen

                    • Christina8

And I'm sure they will happen until something is done. Thanks for the compliment and your reply. I appreciate it!

                    • WL Schuett

Thanks Christina, I think you have written a very good poem of a terrible tragedy that was of course caused by a lunatic using our rediculous gun laws

                      • Christina8

I agree 100%! about the gun laws! Thanks for reading and leaving a great reply!

                      • perrypoemlover

                        Very well written and sad!

                        • Christina8

Thanks for the read and compliment. It is so tragic!

                        • MendedFences27

A sad situation here in the U.S. Those in power seem hopelessly neutered by their quest to remain in power. The history of guns in America has been outrun by the advanced technology of gun makers. It is a new world and it requires new laws. Who in power will be brave enough to speak out loudly?. Lets hope we all come to our senses. Loved your poem - Phil A.

                          • Christina8

Thanks for the read and the wonderful reply! I too agree with what you are saying. Especially that "it is a new world and requires new laws". Thanks again and I appreciate the compliment.--Christina
