Carousel of Life

FredPeyer

Around and around I go

On the carousel of life

With nearly nothing to show

Except for disappointment and strife

Screeching music, vintage tune

Old engine, wheezing, working hard

Painted angels, flowers, sun and moon

Wooden horses, scratched and marred

The horses riding up and down

Just like my mood, from low to high

I am nothing but a run-down clown

With painted smile and tired sigh

There was a time when all was new

When riding the horses was much fun

But good times never last, I knew

Accept that what is done is done

We always hope for another chance

A way to make things right

Both in life and in romance

But deliverance is out of sight

The carousel goes on and on

I’m just along for this one ride

Some day soon I will be gone

Watching sadly from the other side

Thanks so much tanvir! You are too young to worry much about old carousel rides!!! πŸ™‚

This is such a well written poem, Fred, better than I've seen in a while. I hope that you aren't as depressed as poem reflects. Awesome rhyme and cadence. I can assure you when you are on the other side, you won't be watching with a sad face. Again, awesome poem! Definitely a fav!

Thank you Christina! You are very kind. While the rhyming is ok, I am not so sure about the rest. Was hesitant to post it in fact. (Seriously!)

I get hesitant to post too, but so glad you posted this! It's awesome, honestly!

Life is like a carousel ride Fred. We all go through it. Sometimes we get tired of it, and then we reminisce about it. And that ever elusive brass ring not always within reach. Great write Fred.

You are so right, AP. Thanks for reading and commenting!

Such a sad read Fred. You don't come across as you describe. Thankfully I'm still full of optimism always looking forward to the next poem, the next painting, the next day. Nonetheless this is a super write.

              • FredPeyer

Thank you Michael, it does not have to be me! I have to admit though, that there are days when I feel like that!

Good write Fred, we have both been on that carousel for a long time but I believe that the highs on the ride always outweigh the lows.

                • FredPeyer

Right you are, Goldfinch! The highs do outweigh the lows!

You getting anywhere, or you going round in circles?! Good write Fred.

                  • FredPeyer

You know, orchidee, I am pretty sure this applies to all of us. There are times when we are riding that carousel all happy, and then there are times when it is not so happy. Look at your marriage to KP! Anyway, don't worry, I heard that the divorce papers are already being drawn up by her lawyers. She will give you two million pounds, just to sign them!

ah. riding high on the merry-go-round of life whopping and screaming as you watch the people look up in disarray at you because you're having so much fun. hold on you're hat Fred, it looks as though you may be having the time of you're life. good on you brother.

                  • myself and me

This is so not you. How is the weather there? Cloudy?
