What was it,
That strange bird
Sitting in the tree?
It was like a blackbird
But a little bigger,
It was black and white,
A beautiful bird,
But not one I had seen
Not in over sixty years
Of watching birds.
I needed to know,
I found it,
I was almost right,
It was a blackbird,
A leucistic blackbird.
So now I know.
What I did know
Was how elegant this bird was,
And it had came to me,
Came into my garden,
For my wonder to astound.

- Comment from author about the poem: This bird came into our garden, I ha never seen one before and didn't know what it was. I had my camera to hand and got some pictures of it, one of which is shown here. Nature always has the power to surprise us.

Thanks ANDY ~ Beautiful Poem ~ Nature (God) never ceases to surprise us ! Colour variations ~ like Albinos ~ are rare and you were fortunate to get such a lovely picture and the chance to amaze us with a awesome word LEUCISTIC Your BRIAN
Thank you Brian, yes nature is amazing.
Long familiar with albino but leucistic is new to me also - thanks for the info and for another great poem. Live and learn on this site.
Yes, leucistic was new to me as well and yes we always seem to 'live and learn on this site.'
Nature in its many variations ... presented well in this poem and picture. Thanks for the education, Goldie!
My pleasure Louis, we never stop learning, even at my age.

Thank you WL, I have been bird watching for over 60 years and I had never seen one of these before.
