A Moment in Time

FredPeyer

Two trains stopped in the middle of the night

On adjacent tracks with windows all alight

He looks across to the woman in the other train

Only a few feet away, separated by window pane

Lovely face, framed by black hair, beautiful eyes

Wondering about her life, what her posture implies

Then she looks at him and sends across a big smile

A beautiful facial expression without guile

A gift from a stranger, he does not expect

And without words the two do connect

Two lonely souls, brought together, yet apart

For only a moment until the trains will depart

Very good and this can happen more frequently than people imagine. "Strangers that pass in the night"

I'm gonna sing that now 'Strangers in the night, Exchanging glances,...do-be-do-be-doo!' I'm crooning now!

      • FredPeyer

Thanks Goldie, sometimes we connect with somebody without words, not knowing anything about them.

        • orchidee

Ain't no-one connects with my singing .Why they all run away when I start?! heehee.

        • orchidee

a fine write Fred. Erm, like me and KP when we first met on a train! lol.

Thanks orchidee, you were probably swooning and trying to find the courage to approach her when she just took you into her arms, pressed you to her bosom...then you fainted.

Yes, then I could not see a thing. I thought the train was still in the tunnel! (An old Carry On film scene).

            • Michael Edwards

I could see the scene in my minds eye - great stuff Fred.

Amazing what a smile from a stranger can do, isn't it. Well captured in this good write, Fred!

              • FredPeyer

Thanks Louis, yes the right smile at the right time can make one heck of a difference in how we feel.

              • lasergraph

I can visualize the scene and it makes you wish for more, root for a meeting and so forth but sometimes just the connection is all there is.

Thanks lasergraph, you express what many feel. As writers we are naturally inquisitive as well as imaginative. How about you continue the story with another poem?

Love this write Fred! I'm hoping these strangers meet again 🙂

Thanks skye, maybe could be turned into a short story with some unforeseen twists and angles.

                  • Fay Slimm.

Such a heart-moving scene and how many times this must take place Fred - souls that pass so quickly yet never forget that connection.

                    • FredPeyer

Thanks Fay, yes I suppose it does happen quite often. We see somebody and rightaway get the feeling we know them. Maybe souls from a different lifetime?

A wonderful poem, Fred! I can so easily imagine this. Absolutely wonderful indeed!

                      • FredPeyer

Thanks Christina! Maybe I should have titled it 'touched by a stranger'.
